Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 11:31 am:

Weather and travel related delays account for some late starts this week. Between now and noon, the person to post the town of your residence which is the farthest from Calumet (home of Pasty Central) will get a special Early Bird award. (as distances determined by Google Maps.)

p.s. Is it just me, or does anyone else have a problem viewing today's Decade Review? - Charlie

By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 11:37 am:

Davenport, IA - 528 miles

woohoo! maybe no one else will bother to post today.
Can I have that bird now?

By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 11:39 am:

By the way, my slow connection can't see the review
either

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 11:40 am:

Hey Charlie - we're having the same problem! The decade review won't play.

RD already has us beaten on the distance!

By Pat & Glenda (Gormfrog) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 11:43 am:

Worried about tomorrow?
We did that yesterday about today!
Decade in review today does not seem to be formatted correct..

By Nancy DeGuire (Nancyd) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 11:48 am:

I can't get photos to show, either.

Not so fast, my friend!! ;-)
Cypress, Texas - 1,611 miles town-to-town.

And yes, I too can not see the decade in review......
First PostFirst Post
We said it was special... 50% more early bird

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 11:55 am:

Greetings Charlie! No, It's not just you. Webberville, MI.
We're starting the the downhill slide today are'nt we?

Happy Birthday Kim Weed!!!!

By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 12:03 pm:

O Captain, I've been shot down in the prime of life
:o(

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 12:14 pm:

Sorry RD; honestly I thought someone else would shoot me down for the longest distance as I know we have posters from the west coast.

Down to just 3 short weeks now until the Dr. and I are sitting on a beach just like the one on the main page.........

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 12:29 pm:

We finally found the problem with the Decade Review. You should be able to reload this page and see it as usual.

Just a side note: In case you weren't aware, these slide shows also have sound. I happened to be in one of our Pasty.NET member's home recently when she played Day in History, which she said she enjoyed every day. I reached and turned on her speakers, which were off... to which she exclaimed, "There's sound with these!?!"

By Ken, Kalamazoo, MI (Kenkazoo) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 12:30 pm:

The decade in review works now.

By Dale Beitz (Dbeitz) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 01:09 pm:

Capt. Paul: When you consider today's deadline of noon Pastytime is only 9AM west coast time, one assumes they were probably still in bed!

1. That's the price I pay for carelessly goin' off and doing some other chores before logging on to Pastyland this morning! If I was on my game ida hadja beat, hands down, Cap'n! (Not to mention those posters from the west coast.)
I guess that's why it's called the "Early Bird"!

From Google Maps:

2. Did'ja know, there's two Cypress's in Texas:

Cypress "location", Winnsboro, TXN33.043996, W95.269137

(that latter one must be something like "Florida Location" in Houghton County, MI, eh?)

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 02:09 pm:

Well theres 2 masons in Michigan too. I never had a chance with the early bird today. Laurium just wouldn't make the cut. Finally July just wish it would start feeling like it!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 02:55 pm:

Thanks again 4 more Memory Lane pics. The 1 with the Canada Goose should remind us 2 wish all the people from Canada who post here a happy Canada Day, today.

By Theresa R. Brunk (Trb0013) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 03:19 pm:

1601.47 miles from my place of work to Calumet. Dang missed it by 10 miles

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 03:36 pm:

Thanks, Thomas. We're just heading out for a Canada Day Party at
a friend's house. Looks as if we'll have thunder and lightning
instead of fireworks though this evening.

It's amazing how many of our Canadian friends call to wish us a
Happy 4th of July when we are in Toronto...and this year we will be
in Toronto to attend the wedding of my best friend's daughter.

1095 kilometres from Toronto to Ishpeming, so I knew I wouldn't
be in contention for today's Early Bird.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 04:23 pm:

You're welcome, kosk in Toronto. While surfing the net, I came across a website that might interest you. I was amazed how many places in the U.S. are observing Canada Day, today, including at the Froese Residence, 210 Hubbell St. in Houghton, Michigan 49931. Anyway, here's the website:

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 05:52 pm:

I am too late and too short a distance. It is 520 miles from my home in Lansing to my old home in Mass City. The other Mason is down here near Lansing. It's actually the county seat for Ingham County (where Lansing is).

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 10:35 pm:

595 Glorious miles, why glorious? Are you kiddin me, IT'S GOD COUNTRY AT THE END! enough said! I should get a bird for that! lol

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 11:29 pm:

Anyone in the Niagra Falls area. We are doing a French and Indian war reenactment at Fort Niagra. 4500 reenactors will do their best to make it a pleasant historical event.
