I know a number of fishermen and women that swear that the best fishing is when you get out there early in the morning, but then some that say the fish are really biting as the sun goes down and the moon begins its rise. I don't know which ones are right, but I do know that this moonlight fishing shot from Frederic W. Koski sure is a beauty and if it was me out in that boat with the fishing pole on a night like that, I wouldn't care if I caught a fish or not.

And if you stay out there long enough, you might be treated a sighting of the Big Dipper, like this one captured by Dennis Hake on a recent camping trip to the Keweenaw. Can you say relaxing?

Very beautiful pictures!!!

By Helen Marie Chamberlain (Helen) on Monday, July 20, 2009 - 08:45 am:

Lovin' the pictures!!! Thank you!

It is ashamed there are people who do not see the beauty in pictures like these nor do they understand how relaxing it is to do something like that. To just lay out under the stars and daydream or just take a deep breath in and just relax. ;O)

Both pictures are awesome; thank you, Frederic, Dennis and Mary! I'm curious what lake that is?

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Monday, July 20, 2009 - 10:48 am:

My husband's cousin was UP for a visit this weekend. Last night,
actually this morning at 4:00, he woke up and looked out the
window. A Wilmington, Delaware resident, he had never seen so
many stars. My husband, ready to drive back to Toronto, found
him lying on the dock looking up at the stars. We're so glad that
he had that experience. Today's pictures put me in mind of his
experience.

I know what lake that is but I'll save the guessing for someone else eh Fred...

By Frederic W. Koski (Fred) on Monday, July 20, 2009 - 11:31 am:

Great looking dipper Dennis! I can't give away all my secret spots right Clyde? The loons were awesome out there with the moon rising and I would have stayed longer but the mosquitos were tearing me up.

By Brenda Leigh (Brownmoose) on Monday, July 20, 2009 - 01:41 pm:

AH...Fred why did you have to go and ruin that wonderful setting by mentioning MOSQUITOES!!

WHAT BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS!!!!

They do inspire a daydream (or maybe night dream) or two! It is a perfect setting till the bugs appeared...HA HA

I can't wait for winter to come again. I have been constant bait, since the bugs hatched..black flies, no seeums(midges),mosquitoes, deer flies, horse flies and still waiting for the onset of the stable flies ...soon to come. AH... that white fluffy stuff to appear again.

By Mel, MN (Mehollop) on Monday, July 20, 2009 - 02:02 pm:

I'm with you, Brenda Leigh - waiting for the snow flies. :)

You sure can't beat the nighttime sky in da Nort'. Heading to the Boundary Waters this week, hoping for some clear night skies. Last time up there it rained both nights.

Just think...40 years ago today, Neil Armstrong was walking around up on that moon!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Monday, July 20, 2009 - 02:50 pm:

Great pics, especially the Big Dipper. Well done!

By JARMO ITÄNIEMI (Japei) on Monday, July 20, 2009 - 03:55 pm:

Magnificent pictures!!

By Carole (Carole) on Monday, July 20, 2009 - 07:55 pm:

Teal lake!!!???

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Monday, July 20, 2009 - 09:09 pm:

That would have been by guess too, Carole, but...isn't the hill on
the wrong side?

By Donna (Donna) on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 - 05:27 am:

I've got a cd by a Canadian dude....Johnny Reid. One of the songs has a verse, "Wrapped up in a blanket of stars"...

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 - 09:46 am:

Carole & Kosk, Teal Lake is my second choice guess. Lake Medora is my first guess, though. :-)
