Today, we're going to double your quizzing pleasure by having a contest on the Pasty Cam page, too. Let's start by looking at the top photo taken by Cindy Freeman... What business in the Keweenaw has this sign sitting on its roof?

If you're sitting here thinking...'I should know where this is', but you just can't put a name to it yet, then take a look at the second photo, taken by Judy Byykkonen. That's her daughter Ashley, standing outside this same business place. There are enough "hints" in Judy's photo, for most anyone who's been here and really looked around, to figure it out.

Maybe if you're really clever and lightening fast, you can bag two birds (Early Birds, that is!) in one day! Good Luck! :->

I'm not the Early Bird,
but better the Bird than the Worm :.)

Like the sign, but why is it next to a chimney??

By Cindy, New Baltimore, MI (Cindy) on Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 09:03 am:

Mary, you are making my mouth water for a whitefish dinner at Harbor Haus. It's the best!!!!

By Anna Roehrich (Updreamer) on Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 09:54 am:

I knew that sign immediately - the Harbor Haus is my very favorite restaurant. I would love to be there eating strawberry crepes with whipped cream right now!

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 10:16 am:

wasn't that phrase on the sign coming into Houghton from Chassell ? I truly miss that sign

By Tom (Tom) on Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 11:13 am:

That phrase also was on a sign near the look out going up Quincy Hill. And near Painsdale. Many years ago. The Blue Lakes Sportsmans Club sponsored the signs back then--many years ago.

By Bonnie Hartman (Bonniehartman) on Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 12:13 pm:

I remember that sign. It was always a welcoming sight that let one know they were almost home!
I worked at the Harbor Haus for many years. I remember when Fritz put those logs out front.
I can see him on his bulldozer pushing the rocks around. The Harbor Haus is a favorite place of mine to eat when I'm back in the Keweenaw. Thanks for the visit "home" today.

By Doug Smith (Smitty) on Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 12:15 pm:

On vacations, I can remember my mom telling us kids to "take in that Copper Country air. It's the best in the world!" She was sooooo right!
Boy, how i miss her and all the little things she shared with us. How big a difference they all made in my life now that I'm all "grown up".

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 12:44 pm:

Well, it's about time that Mary gave us the bird. :)

Cindy, We had the Whitefish dinner when Marty and I were U.P. over Memorial weekend, it was fantastic! of course you have to have the warm German Potato salad as well! Can't wait to go there again this summer.

Ang says you have a bubble butt in this picture, Ash!

By James Alain (Charlevoix) on Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 06:55 pm:

David, you're right....that "freshest air" sign used to be on US 41 just before Tech, long before it started appearing all over the place up here; there even was one briefly by the Chassell Sportsmens Club a few years ago

By Just me (Jaby) on Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 07:42 pm:

Ryan- you are in BIG trouble.hahahaha

By Bernadine Gauthier (Bernie2) on Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 08:08 pm:

To Doug Smith, I can remember your Mom saying the same to me. I can remember her playing piano at the cottage. Wonderful person and wonderful times.

By Tim Holland (Tholland) on Sunday, June 7, 2009 - 01:05 am:

That's my favorite restaurant anywhere. I've been to nice restaurants in Germany and Austria and Harbor Haus has them beat. At one point when I would vacation in Copper Harbor, me and a few friends would literally eat three meals a day there: Breakfast, lunch and dinner, for three or four days straight. I used to have the metabolism of a field mouse.

That was all fun and games when I was in my early thirties. Can't do that anymore unless I want to bring three sizes of clothes. Try the venison or Copper Harbor Marinated Hickory Trout if you want to be impressed.

When was this picture taken? Last august we were in Copper Harbor during the last week of august & the sign was not there, I think they told us it was being repainted? glad to see that the sign has returned. Here's a photo of the Harbor Haus I took a few years ago.

Just checked the posts from yesterday and I have to add that the Harbor Haus is always a special treat. The view is sooo calming and so naturally breathtaking and the food is ALWAYS excellent. They have the most interesting menu around and every item is always prepared professionally and to perfection.Yes, always a special treat to go there.....
