Crego Lake is on the eastern end of the U.P., in Chippewa County and that's where today's group of ladies gathered for an adventure in the woods, snowshoeing and skiing around the cabin they stayed at for 4 days. Brenda Leigh was part of this group and recorded their trials and tribulations on film for us to see. Actually, she didn't share any photos of the trials, but did share a story about trying to make coffee one morning, when the temperature had dipped below zero ....

"The coldest night there was -15 below. In fact we had trouble with the propane line the following morning, as it was freezing up. Can you imagine eight women without coffee? I think we lit the pilot lights on that darn stove nine times before it would finally stay on so we could perk that big pot of coffee."
The pictures tell the rest of the story of how these women enjoyed snowshoeing to make a trail out to an island on the Lake, then headed back out another time on skis to make a bonfire and enjoy the day. If you look closely at the third picture, you can spot the skiers ahead of the camera, near the base of the tree-line, as they were making their way back to camp. Of course the best part about getting back to camp was firing up the sauna and sweating off the winter chill from their adventures in the great U.P. outdoors!

That just looks cold to me, lol. But it's nice there's something that people can do to stop the depression from hitting during these long cold months.

Around here in Troy, MI, you can see woman's groups and associations meeting together in restaurants and coffee shops. That first photo looks like a women’s yooper meeting. (Discussing how to take over the world, no doubt.) :-)

I don't know, Alex, looks like they need a male to show them how to build a real BONFIRE before they can 'take over the world'. Just kiddin', gals, no letters, please.:)

Brenda, thank you for sharing your outing with those of us who have had similar experiences while we too lived in the beautiful UP. I, too, had a group of friends who would put on our skis and ski various parts of Houghton and Keweenaw County. We all had young children, but we took the time to enjoy the season and our friendships. Thanks again for bringing back some wonderful memories of moments that I shared with my dearest friends in the Copper Country.

Brenda, Your pictures are beautiful. Thank you for sharing. 8 of us Idaho women returned on Wednesday evening from our 3 day ski in Harriman State Park, Island Park, ID. Trumpeter Swans and other water fowl galore. Wonderful memories and great company.

Just read online in the Daily Mining Gazette that John Mihelich, or otherwise known as the Jam Lady, passed away. Whenever we were there I would stop and buy plenty of jam to last me till I went back up. I enjoyed talking to him and will miss seeing him.

Those photos are picture-perfect! And if a guy was there to help it would probably involve the use of white gas!

Mary or Charlie----------I am a 77year old novis e-mailer. Have a bunch of albino moose photos I would like to share with the folks. What is your e-mail adress that I could use to send them to you?

Mary says: Hi Richard! You can actually find either Charlie's or my email addresses by clicking on our names accompanying the notes we've written. BUT, before you do so for sending the albino moose photos you mention, I thought I'd let you know that they aren't really photos from the U.P. or anywhere in Michigan. They've been circulated with various locations all over North America and they've also had them posted back in 2007, you can check it out here: Feb. 7, 2007
