The connection between the Upper Peninsula and the Lower Peninsula is where we are today, courtesy of Cindy Freeman. The Mackinac Bridge in winter makes just as impressive a photo as the same scene in the summer months. Actually, I think maybe the bridge stands out a bit more with the ice and snow surrounding it. She sure is an impressive presence spanning the waters between the two peninsulas of Michigan.

Cindy also snapped a couple different angles of the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse that sits watching over the Mackinac Straits. This is one of my favorite lighthouses, as it's so castle-like in appearance with the construction resembling a turret. No matter what angle you take a photo of this lighthouse, you get something interesting, like the view of the bridge along with the light...nice job!

Thanks for the pictures. I haven't been able to get up north this winter to our cabin near Cheboygan. On those winter trips, we'd always get up to Mackinaw City & go to that park to look at the bridge.

In the summer, you can go through the lighthouse and go up in the tower; quite a view. You do need to have safe shoes or the guide will stop you.

I just dont' see the excitement in this stuff with all that white stuff surrounding it. Give me summer!!!!

I was surprised to see my pictures on Pasty this morning. They were taken a couple of weekends ago after a snowstorm dropped about a foot of snow in places in the northwest portions of the lower peninsula. I was glad that it cleared up before we left, because the day before we couldn't even see the bridge in the white-out conditions. I love lighthouses in any season, but they are really fun to photograph in the winter for me. The path along the shore was cleared, but I had to trudge through some very deep snow to get the lighthouse pictures. Snowshoes would be a good thing to put on my Christmas list next year, I think. I'm glad you can enjoy them from a warm place.

I love the pic of the bridge I was in the same exact spot on Sun on my snowmobile. What a great day and memories will last a life time!! Thanks for sharing.

Summer, winter, spring, or fall, the Big Mac is splendor personified. I had the privilege, a dream I always had, of walking this beautiful bridge during the Labor Day Walk a few years ago. It was one of the most "exhilarating" things I've done in my lifetime. How fortunate we are in this state to have such a magnificent feat of engineering and what a difference it has made for allowing so many from all over the country ease of access to our beautiful U.P.
