Charlie Eshbach was one of the first contributors to the Pasty Cam, and he gives us an update of the U.P.'s winter beauty in today's first shot. While students at Tech are concentrating on sculptures for Winter Carnival next month, Mother Nature has been busy shaping her own.

When winter surrounds Lake Superior, she has a whole new medium to create beauty around her. Karl Berg was able to snap some of that artwork for us in the second shot, amazing in that it captures both the shoreline in the distance and the depth of the ice built up. It's like a large open mouth with jagged teeth, warning you from trying to enter the darkness within. Then Karl gets close-up to handiwork left by the waves of the Big Lake splashing up onto the icy shores. With the coating of snow clinging, these icy tendrils look to be kind of fuzzy.

Thanks to both Charlie and Karl for some wintry beauty to start the day.

The top picture looks like a Bald Eagle's head.

Fantastic pics and yes, I do see an eagle.

Ice pictures are the best ones in the winter. That does look like an eagle.

The ice "teeth" in the second picture reminds me of how are dearly departed Doberman's mouth looked when he yawned, which he never used for a weapon, other than for kisses.

It does look like an Bald Eagle's head. Sharp- jagged teeth of a monster, too. Great pictures.

Oh Yeah! To the left of the eagle- looks like a squirrel. What do you think?

These pictures are amazing. I can't even imagine how cold it is
up there.

I've been to the UP in the winter one time (that I can remember).
I remember the snow banks were higher than my brothers
Volkswagon Bug we were in, it was fun, we ended sliding up on
top of the snow bank. There were 10 teens (all cousines) in the
car and we just picked up the car and put it back on the road.

Lucylu: When I was at MTU, the dorm I was in (Wadsworth) was right along US-41, which runs through campus. One fall as the roads were just starting to get icy a station wagon came barreling down the road way too fast and ended up sliding off the road and onto the lawn in front of the dorm. Luckily there was no damage. Within minutes about 30 guys came running out of the dorm and lifted the station wagon back on the road and sent the driver on their way. Just goes to show that almost anything is preferable to studying!
