On Saturday The Hut had a pre-opening celebration, but Monday, October 9... it opens again officially for business, after being closed for two and a half years.

It was a hectic day and a lot of hard work. My favorite picture below is the one of Charlie changing the light bulb.

Our first guests was a waitress at the Hut from 1965-66, Marion Kezele Schmidlin and her husband, Bruce

The kitchen crew, chef Mike Porter is shown in the back of the kitchen

Part of our new wait staff

Former waitress, Judy Perault on the left, was at the Hut on opening day in 1952, as she lived across the street (US-41)

The Hut hours are 11 am to 9 pm, seven days a week, starting on Monday, October 9, 2006.

Lol, so how many webmasters does it take to change a lightbulb??? ;-)

Congrats to all you guys (and gals) who have re-opened a Copper Country landmark!!! Dr. Nat and I will definitely stop in for a bite to eat when we're up there again.....

By Richard Wieber (Dickingrayling) on Sunday, October 8, 2006 - 02:03 pm:

Best wishes on the reopening of the Hut, the new pastie bakery, and continued PastyCam. I have been forced to be away from the copper country for 45 years but you folks help keep it fresh in my memory and in my heart. Thanks so much.

Is the menu posted somewhere online?

The links up above take you to images of the menu pages, or a pdf version.

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, October 8, 2006 - 05:03 pm:

For dinner on Saturday Rod and Dolly Johnson joined Edie and I in Booth A, where we had the opportunity to sample some of the new menu ourselves. Actually, we all ended up ordering old familiar Hut favorites like the Danwich, Seafood Louis salad, and veggie lasagna. Lot's of fun and laughter along the way, too.

Just before our meal arrived, in walked the Ace of Eagle Harbor himself, Neil Harri. He handed me a beautiful print of a picture he had taken earlier in the afternoon. As you can see, the Hut was quite busy!

The newer, light colored building on the corner between the Hut and the old motel is "Pasty Central Express", which will be starting drive-thru service the end of this month. It also houses our USDA inspected pasty kitchen, which has been quite busy in an effort to fill web orders pouring in from all over the country.

Here is The Hut Menu - Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to open. 392K.

By Jacobsville (Barb) on Sunday, October 8, 2006 - 07:32 pm:

I just downloaded the menu and in perusing it, I didn't find
milk offered as a beverage. Being a milk drinker, I just wanted
to double check if you will be offering it.

The answer is yes... and buttermilk should be added soon.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Sunday, October 8, 2006 - 07:48 pm:

"Got milk?"
I certainly hope so, that would be a curious omission!

Other than that it looks like a carefully designed and crafted menu - a perfect printing job as well.

Thanks too for the back page - keeping the history alive- hurrah!

Congratulations on the long awaited grand re-opening!

By Dotsie Salani Stewart (Suna) on Sunday, October 8, 2006 - 08:39 pm:

We would always stop there for lunch on our way to Eagle Harbor. Great memories. Glad they are open again. Will definately stop there when we come back to the Copper Country.

Everything Looks GREAT!!

Congrats to all!

By Lak (Lak) on Monday, October 9, 2006 - 02:13 pm:

I didn't see Mud Pie on the menu! It was a great part of the Hut for us. Some of our kids chose ordering Mud Pie over having a birthday cake!

By Tom Rapson (Rapson) on Friday, October 13, 2006 - 11:04 am:

Congratulations!!! Glad to see the Hut is open again. Nothing tastes better than a warm pasty. See you on our next visit to the Copper Country.

Stopped in while in area for the LSPR rally the end of October. My first time in, been going to rally for four years now. Best I could do was get in half hour before closing time. The staff was still VERY friendly and helpful. Food was great! Cant wait till next year, Ill be back!!

By Melissa Swanson (Momofanglz) on Thursday, December 14, 2006 - 08:56 pm:

Hey, what happened to the "lovely" black & white uniforms?? I was fortunate enough to wear one back in 78 for a couple of years. Of course that was back when the fare was burgers and root beer. Speaking of which, where's the root beer? Are the booths in the back still called "E?" It used to be a hot date spot!

Melissa(Depper)Swanson

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 - 08:50 am:

Melissa, the "E" is for Enchantment Room, and that's what it's still called. Lot's of couples ask to be seated there.

By Rob Kitchen (Rgkitchen) on Sunday, December 31, 2006 - 11:05 pm:

I was disappointed that the Hut was not open when I was up in the area last July, but am glad that it is open now. I was reading your menu and I see something missing. Back when I was a lot younger, my family stayed in a cabin on Lake Medora during the summers. A few times during the summer my parents would take all of us to the Hut for dinner. I would always get the "Hut Dog". A hot dog split open lengthways on a hamburger bun. I just can't imagine the Hut without the Hut Dog!

WOW
When we were growing up the high point of the summer was going "up north" from wisconsin. My dad was born and raised in rambletown. Grandma and grandpa lived on B Street and aunt rose (shegina) on c. my aunt mary and uncle norm (nelson) lived in Hancock. We would spend the last night up there going to the outdoor with our cousin donna followed by a hot fudge sundae at the hut. Wow...

Thanks to all who have visited the Hut over the winter, and during this unusually snowy spring.

The Hut will be closed on Easter Sunday, and is still closed on Mondays these days, made available for group reservations only.

Plan to join us for dinner when you're in the Copper Country this summer.

By Susie Krueger (Tksk99) on Monday, April 30, 2007 - 08:19 am:

We are so glad that the Hut has re-opened. It was always a "must" on our annual trips (25 of them) over the years. The place holds many happy memories. Looking forward to visiting this summer. Wishing you much success. Susie K.

Hey, it was a blast from the past to have a Steakburger Deluxe this weekend. No matter where I travel in this big beautiful country, there's no place like home.
