A beautiful baby. What a wonderful way to start a new year!

By Lorelei (Lorelei) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 02:46 pm:

Absolutly precious. My best wishes to you on your new baby. I have to admit, I am envious. I can almost smell her from here. New baby smell is the best smell ever.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 04:48 pm:

Callie Jane Alwine
Nate Alwine asked me to post this for him as he's just a bit busy, on the run right now! ;-)

Callie was born at 6:21 (Thursday the 5th). She's 8 pounds 1 ounce, and we didn't get to find out how long she is. Callie ended up having some problems and had to be taken to Marquette. So Hilarie is at Dickinson County Hospital and Callie is at Marquette General Hospital. Hilarie will be recovering for the next several days, and Callie could be in Marquette for up to 10 days. Hilarie is in good spirits at Dickinson County Hospital and I'm on my way to Marquette to visit Callie Jane. I'm tired, but so happy to be a dad!!
By
Margo (Margo) on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 07:52 pm:

Callie is just beautiful. Hope Mom is doing well. Our prayers are with all of you. Keep us posted.
Take care of yourself Dad....

By lz (Llamamama) on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 10:35 pm:

I spent some time working at Marquette - Callie is in good hands, say hello to my fellow "vampires". Hilarie, I have many friends at Dickinson, you are in good hands also! Congrats to all and blessings!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 11:00 pm:

Congrats Nate and Hilarie on the birth of your precious Callie. Hope everyone is doing fine...please keep us updated.

By Nate (Nalwine) on Sunday, January 8, 2006 - 08:46 am:

Thanks all :-) Callie is doing really well now. Hilarie was release from Dickinson Cty Hospital yesterday and we are staying at the Beacon House in Marquette. She got to hold her baby for the first time yesterday. Callie will be here for another week and then we finally get to go home for good.

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Sunday, January 8, 2006 - 09:22 am:

Oh, thanks, Nate! I'm so relieved. I always worry about people having rough beginnings with their little ones as I did w/ both of mine. But things have a way of often working out, and it sounds like things are looking up.

By the way, her picture is gorgeous! You'd never know there was a problem

Good luck.......and just take it a day at a time!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Sunday, January 8, 2006 - 01:29 pm:

Nate, Thanks for taking the time to give us an update on you, Hilarie and Callie. Both my daughter and I went through a rough start when she was born...so I know how that is. So glad that everything has worked out, and everyone is fine ;)

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Sunday, January 8, 2006 - 04:08 pm:

Brita, Congratulations on the new addition to the family. Checked out your gallery and all of the kids are cute. How I miss having a little one around. My youngest grandchild is now 5 and thinks she's all grown up. Enjoy them all.

By NKR (Nkr) on Saturday, January 14, 2006 - 05:10 pm:

Congradulations Brita on a wonderful addition to a beautiful family.

By Nate (Nalwine) on Monday, January 16, 2006 - 04:34 pm:

Charlotte, thanks for the congratulations on Callie. Since I see you're from Mishawaka I'll mention that I was born in St Joe Hospital in Mishawaka :-) Small world isn't it?

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Monday, January 16, 2006 - 05:08 pm:

So, Nate -- how are Callie and Hilarie?

By Nate (Nalwine) on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 - 12:29 am:

Callie and Hilarie are doing wonderfully. We are all adjusting to each other, but so far Callie has been pretty easy on us :-) Callie is nearly 10 pounds now!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 - 01:02 am:

Nate, Thanks for keeping us updated on your family :) I had been wondering how Callie's first night home was ;)

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 - 11:36 am:

Thanks, Nate. So happy to hear things are going well. :)

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 - 08:25 pm:

Nate, This site shows just how small the world really is. You are one up on me as I was born in South Bend. Did you live in Mishawaka long? Be sure to get Callie to Mishawaka when she's older. She needs to know her Dad's roots. Hope Mom and Callie are both doing good. Dad, too.

By Nate (Nalwine) on Thursday, January 19, 2006 - 10:55 am:

Callie actually sleeps like a log at night, especially the first night. I spend more time trying to convince myself she's breathing than trying to get her to sleep :)

Charlotte-- I lived in Mishawaka for 13 years, South Bend for 3. We hope to get Callie to Mishawaka this year. We have lots of family we want to introduce her to. Who know's maybe we'll bump into you while there :)

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Thursday, January 19, 2006 - 01:58 pm:

Nate, Whew, glad to hear that I wasn't the only parent who worried about the baby breathing. I would actually lay in bed at night...and hold my breath, so I could hear her breathing.
You know, how at the beginning of the movie, "Terms of Endearment", Shirley McClain is standing over the crib, to make sure her sleeping infant daughter is still breathing. And when the infant is too quiet, she wakes her up and the baby starts crying...figuring if the baby is crying, then she's breathing. Dat was me.

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Thursday, January 19, 2006 - 07:49 pm:

Nate, Glad to hear you plan on getting Callie to Mishawaka this year. I'm sure all the relatives here will be thrilled to meet Callie. It would be great if I would run into you while you're in town.

I was also one of those Moms who listened for their baby's breathing. I used to go into the crib in the night and lay my hand on them to see if it would move up and down. Sometimes hard to see in the dark.
