The weather outside has been frightful, but the birds are still able to find something to munch on as David Roberts shows us with apples that were left behind in the tangled branches. I'm sure the birds that winter over appreciate a tasty treat like this when the Keweenaw winds start blowing and the snow is swirling all around.

It's not only the temperature outside that makes some winter days colder than others, it's also the wind. You can see that in action, through the trees of David's second photo, when you spot Lake Superior. She looks to be pretty riled up, with waves frothing as they race to the shore.

Lake Superior at it's finest. So much fun to watch when she's like that.

Yes, the weather has certainly been nasty up there. Lost a whole day due to stormy conditions. The roads were fine all the way home with the exception of Houghton Co. Every year it seems to be like that. Maybe they run out of sand and salt or something. As soon as we hit the Ontonagon Co. line the roads were sanded nicely and you didn't have to worry about sliding off the road. A big thank you to them, and I believe the other one is Gogebic Co. The roads were very manageable. It was fun to see a blizzard though. It's been a while.

Beautiful wintertime pictures!! Anybody living east of eastern Iowa...look out! A lot of snow and ice coming your way! It's a duzy of a storm!!

Hi
Janie T., snow was predicted to arrive around 4AM here in SE Michigan; it was certainly snowing heavily when I got up & got on the road at around 6:30. The ice component is supposed to stay to our south. The major highways were pretty much snow with tracks carved out by previous traffic; couldn't even call them "packed & groomed" like the ski slopes.

Good morning from the winter wonderland.
It's a pretty day in the woods, trees look like they have been sprinkled with white sugar.
Have been feeding the deer but they only seem to come out at night and I can't see them. Have lots of tracks but no deer.
Our dog has figured out how to get at the food pile and steal all the apples. Guess the deer will just have to settle for the cabbage and other goodies I put out for them. Merry Christmas from Paradise.!!
LuLu--see where your Vegas had some yooper white stuff lately!!!!

OFF topic i know but does anyone have a CD of the Heikki Lunta snow dance song ?? they used to play it a lot on WMPL ?? Or do you know where i can get it?

By Ashley Stelmack (Ashleymack) on Friday, December 19, 2008 - 12:10 pm:

The snow here is Northern Wisconsin is mild but I hear southern and Central Wisconsin are getting slammed with anywhere from 8 to 12 inches of snow today.

My sister is in school in Ripon, Wisconsin and she is telling me it's a whiteout outside her dorm window. My dad is on his way down there now to pick up her for Winter Holiday. I'll find out soon how dangerous the roads are.

Just got back from lunch and it is crazy out there in SE Lower Michigan. At least six inches on the ground and still falling hard. I almost feel like a Yooper. Days like this I'm glad I have 4-wheel drive (and a good stereo).

By DEAN SCHWARTZ SR. (Lulu) on Friday, December 19, 2008 - 01:13 pm:

Came home from work. Got the snow blower out, started to clean off the drive-way and the road. The weather station said we recieved 9 inches. I measured 10.5 in my front yard, at 12:55. The snow is still comming down. Oh well that's why I live here in Michigan.Every-one please be careful shoveling the snow and driving in it.

By Little M (Littlem) on Friday, December 19, 2008 - 01:41 pm:

we got about a foot of snow here in milwaukee. reminds me of being back home in the keweenaw!! too bad i don't have a yooper scoop to save the day.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Friday, December 19, 2008 - 01:59 pm:

Well hear near the Smoky's it is a chilly 67 F. Gusty wind's 16 mph from the East, and what you have comming my way from the West, maybe Knoxville will have a White Christmas with snow like they used to get back in the good old day's. Or my grand-daughters will be planting palm trees here on the old homestead long after I am gone.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Friday, December 19, 2008 - 03:05 pm:

Lotsa snow here in the Flint area with blowing and drifting the rest of the day. We had seven inches this morning and now lots more. So my last day of school before Christmas vacation is a snow day! Woo hoo! The kids and teachers were expecting it to happen, so if it didn't we would've been majorly bummed. This is our third snow day already, and usually we're lucky to get one all season. Our big staff party tonight was cancelled, because the roads aren't plowed in the area of the hall, nor is the hall's parking lot. So we'll reschedule sometime after Christmas.

Jeffkal, they used to sell the Heikke Lunta CD right here at pasty.com, maybe they have some copies left(?) All I can say is, I played mine here in Connecticut on Wednesday. It WORKED, we have whiteout conditions as I type, expecting over a foot. That's nothing compared with the UP winters, I know, having spent four years UP there while in the Coast Guard in the 1970s. Happy Holidays to all from CT! I think I'll put my copy of Heikke Lunta Snowdance Song away for awhile....

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Saturday, December 20, 2008 - 08:50 pm:

Yes, put that copy in a safe place. If one of the many copy's out there get's into the wrong hand's, it would be KAOS.

David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn):

Hey David, ya 'tink we should send a complimentary Heikki Lunta CD to Al Gore, just in case he's still looking for a sure cure for da "Global Warming", eh?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, December 20, 2008 - 11:35 pm:

We went shopping tonight and I told my hubby "Global Warming my you know what." It's ridiculous! It's minus 4 at 6:00 tonight. I don't think we'll get above zero tomorrow. Throw some of that global warming my way.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Sunday, December 21, 2008 - 06:41 am:

Algore would play The Heikki Lunta CD backwards in reverse, in hope of more hot air out of him.

By Lisa R. (Sisugirl) on Sunday, December 21, 2008 - 11:03 am:

Florida seems to missing all of the winter excitement. In the 70s down here, mostly cloudy, chance of some rain later. I miss the snow and seasons. I keep hoping we'll get a day or two of real wintry weather down here, ala Houston ten days ago. The downside: Road crews aren't equipped for that sort of weather and they shut down the roads. Won't hear me complaining about that, though. I'd love to stay home for a day and enjoy the illusion that I'm back home. :) Have a great Sunday, everyone!
