Being a wearer of glasses, I can totally relate to the picture Bill Haller sent. Fogged up glasses are my biggest complaint about being out in the cold, crisp, Keweenaw air, then coming back inside. For the next five minutes or so, I'm just about blind or at least visually handicapped, as I can't see a thing without my eye crutches. Needless to say, that doesn't stop me from getting out there and enjoying winter activities. Fun things like what Michael Musiel captured - a youngster snowshoeing through the whiteness that's covering the ground.

If anyone has a solution to prevent glasses from fogging up after a jaunt outside this time of year, feel free to share it with us all.

Don't ya love being the first to make a mark in that fresh snow? GREAT pic!

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 08:01 am:

Hi
Donna, no, actually; I'd like someone else to have broken trail. I'll take my turn at it, of course ;>) [FYI, I'd be on cross-country skiis not snowshoes]. I will say that white, deep, fluffy stuff in the photo is a sight for sore eyes. We had rain down here yesterday.

Mary, the only cure I know is to wipe off the moisture once you get inside.

Snow is prettiest when it clings to the trees like that.

Boy, do I miss stomping around in some fresh snow. And oh yeah, coming back inside and having to wait 20 minutes before you can see through your glasses again. Been there to :-)

Have a great day everybody.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 09:06 am:

How I wish we could have that snow! We have 1 1/2 in. of ice to contend with. Your snow is much prettier!

By Katie Budde (Katieann75) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 09:45 am:

Solution: is to come in the house backwards.
Have a great day to everyone.

By Margy Davis (Michmargy) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 09:45 am:

OOOooohhhhh! How I long to be out in the woods on snowshoes! So beautiful and peaceful -- I can almost feel the calm.........

Happy Wednesday to all!!

By Dorothy Stewart (Bootjackbabe) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 10:20 am:

Good morning from beautiful Bootjack.
The sun is out and the lake is frozen so everything is sparkling like glitter.!!! The plow just went through so we have a nice big bank at the end of the driveway-----time to get out the snow blower.
Hi to LuLu in Denver and my daughter who is stationed at Keesler AFB in Mississippi. She is coming home for the holidays and is looking forward to a white Christmas. It was 68 in Biloxi when she called this morning. +

Mary:
Concerning the problem with fogged glasses - If possible, have two pairs of glasses. Wear one outside and keep the other pair in your pocket, then when you come inside, switch pairs...

By AJ - WI (Ajinwi) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 11:21 am:

I bought a jar of some sort of "waxy" creme from a demonstration at Wal Mart. You smear it on your lens, use a soft cloth (they recommended a white men's handkerchief which I then bought) and you wipe the lens. The lens are sparkly clean. They prevent your glasses from fogging up when you come indoors from outside, or when you open the oven door to remove a pan. Perhaps if you call your eye doctor's office they could tell you if they have it available, or where you can buy it. Hope this helps. It's wonderful stuff and it seems to last until I wash my glasses again.

Bootjackbabe:
Is your daughter in a tech school related to electronics at Keesler? Was stationed there many years ago. Was Lou Salani your brother? Or do I have you mixed up with someone else?

By Dorothy Stewart (Bootjackbabe) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 12:01 pm:

Tom,
Yes Lou Salani is my brother and he passed away 5 years ago at a very young age.
Sarah is stationed at Keesler and works as an ER trauma nurse---she will be leaving there soon to attend AFIT at Baltimore Shock Trauma Center to get a nurse practioner degree. She meets lots of "Yoopers" in the AF---they always talk about pasties.

By Ellen Cox (Dytta) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 12:09 pm:

Hi Mary Drew! Maybe spitting on your glasses like the SCUBA divers spit on their goggles to prevent fogging, would help??? It really does work on goggles under water!

I didn't like the stuff mentioned from a Walmart demo, if it was the green stuff....it left a green residue around the edges/rims of my glasses that I couldn't remove.

Talking about the first prints in fresh snow brought back memories of when I'd be the first to go to school in the AM and have to make tracks through the night's snowfall, sometimes very deep! Wasn't too happy about it.

Merry Christmas Y'all from Florida!

By Ellen Cox (Dytta) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 12:13 pm:

P.S. to Mary Drew.....you'd have to spit on the lenses of the glasses before you go out in the cold....if you want to try it....now it doesn't sound like such a good idea!

By Ernie Kuusisto (Erniek) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 02:46 pm:

Hi to all here in the land of the white frozen sand. I saw messages a couple days ago about Lindells. Well it is open now under new ownership. Lindells was open on Saturday evening for a few hours and opened regular hours on Monday. I think the hours will be Monday to Thursday 7am to 3pm and Friday and Saturday till 7pm or so for Friday fish fry and Saterday evening diner. She will also be opening a dinning room in the near future.

By Helen (Heleninhubbel) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 03:34 pm:

Mr UP Goldwinger......loved your solution !!!!

God Bless us as we freeze %^)

I knew Lou in high school. Same class on same basketball teams, etc. I had heard from Martin Conway that he had died. I was quite shocked and have missed not being able to catch up on "life" at our reunions.

By AJ - WI (Ajinwi) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 05:17 pm:

Just for the record. I have been using the "green stuff" for over a year and I do not have any green residue on my glasses. Perhaps you used too much of it? When I put it on, it does not appear to be green. It just looks like a film, and then it wipes off with a handkerchief. I think you are using way too much. I sure have not had a problem.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 05:34 pm:

Ok, this is weird!!! I'm in SE Texas, where it never gets cold and I look outside and what do I see??? SNOW!! And not just a few flakes, but lots of snow beginning to accumulate on the bricks and fence...........

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 06:09 pm:

Capt Paul...clearly YOU are the one who needs to clean your glasses!

By Greg Burk (Gregburk) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 09:05 pm:

O.K. Mary,

Here is my "secret" to REDUCING fog problem on glasses, . . . and I use it on my sunglasses, ski goggles, ATV glasses, SnoMo helmet shields, etc, . . . it is a product called CAT CRAP Lens Cleaner Anti-Fog made by E.K. Ekcessories, Inc. in Utah (Phone # 435-753-8448 listed on the package), and shows a website address of www.ekusa.com

Like I said, it is a "secret", . . . so do not tell anyone.

Hey Cap't. Paul! I believe you! When we were going to Texas as Winter Texans we had a white Christmas Eve about 2002, 2001, at Rockport. Couple inches if I remember correctly. The locals went nuts. Page after page in the Times-Caller of pictures of kids making snowmen, snow "angels" and snow ball fights! Enjoy, it'll be gone in a day or so.

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 09:46 pm:

Hey katieanne75! I thought every body came into a warm room from the cold outside backwards. It always worked for me.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 08:56 am:

Capt Paul, have you checked your local news if the power plant had an accident. It might be nuclear fallout.

By Brian Patrie (Briansp) on Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 07:43 pm:

I don't miss the cold (or the rust); but i do miss snow.

By Molly (Trvtitans) on Saturday, December 13, 2008 - 09:00 am:

Greg, I once bought some CAT CRAP while skiing in Utah a few winters back and it didn't work worth a hoot for me. It just made my glasses full of little specks of moisture. So now I just resort to putting my contacts in for any outdoor winter activities. Works every time.
