Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:34 am:

There's something about a twilight scene UP North, like this one from Joyce Tormala, that gives you a feeling of quiet and calm. It would be a great place to take an evening walk and unwind after a day of work, just make sure you dress warm.

Joyce's second photo doesn't give you that same kind of "warm" feeling, but just the opposite. Those are some angry looking clouds, the kind that herald a good storm blowing in. Even with wild clouds like these, it's fun to pick out the different things the clouds resemble. How many of you can spot the dinosaur in them?

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:45 am:

Yes, I see the dinosaur.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:49 am:

The 2nd picture depicts my mood. I am so sad to say that my dad passed away during the night. I love to visit the UP, but not this way. This is the saddest day of my life.

By john mich (Johnofmi) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:51 am:

The clouds in the second photo are known as Mammatus Clouds. See;

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:54 am:

Deb S....My condolences to you. When my dad passed on, it was the Holidays also. The Holidays just haven't been quite the same since.

By Mike (Upboundeh) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:54 am:

Deb S. Sorry to hear the sad news...You and your family are in our prayers...

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 08:01 am:

Deb, I'm very sorry to hear this I will be thinking of you.

By john mich (Johnofmi) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 08:02 am:

Deb S. Sorry to hear of your loss. When my Dad died the one "thought" that really helped me get through the sorrow was that, every time I saw a person who looked my age or older, I thought "They had a father and he died and they lived through it OK, so can I" Maybe sounds corny, but it helped me. You will feel better soon.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 08:15 am:

Oh, my, Deb, I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. You will be in my prayers and your memories of him will keep him with you forever.

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 08:15 am:

Deb, so sorry to learn of your Dad's death. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 08:20 am:

Thank you everybody! I am so sad. I'm trying to get packed, but I just can't think. And the first place I think to turn is my friends. Thank you all for being there. It means so much. I just broke the news to 3 of my 4 sons. That was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. They were all so close to him.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 08:39 am:

I don't want to steal anything away from you Deb; our condolences. However, there was also another sad death in the Keweenaw over the weekend. On Saturday, Dr. Bill Gregg of Michigan Tech passed away in Quincy Mine installing rescue ladders in #2 shaft. Below is the Mining Gazette article:

I wanted to post something yesterday, but I was still in shock mode hoping it was all a bad dream; it wasn't.....

Our thoughts and prayers go with you, Deb and your family. It's so hard losing our parents....makes us realize that in some ways, that's the end of our childhood, because as long as we have our parents around us, we are still someone's 'child'. Have a safe journey and God speed!

My Father has passed over 42 years this week also. He was only 49. Grandmother passed 17 years ago on New years Eve after 97 years of life.

Dr.Bill Gregg of Michigan Tech will long be remembered also.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 05:00 pm:

To Deb & Mr Deb, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time. I am happy for you all that your dad lived long enough to see some of your grandchildren! (My dad passed away almost 23 years ago, before my youngest two sons were born. My sons never got to even meet their wonderful Grandpa!)

Capt Paul & Dr Nat and the whole Mich Tech community and Copper Country, my thoughts and prayers are with all, on the passing of Dr Bill Gregg! He was a treasure, not only to Mich Tech, but also the whole area!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 10:06 pm:

Deb and Ron,

The last time I checked the Pasty Cam, it was early this morning.
So much has happened. Deb and Ron: My heart goes out to you
and the rest of your family. Reading your posts over the years, we
all know how much your parents meant to you. Needless to say,
you will be in my prayers.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 10:16 pm:

My prayers are with you and your family, Deb. When my dad died a couple years ago, I printed all my pastycam condolences and put them in a special box along with cards I received and pictures. It's nice to have & look back on.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 10:19 pm:

What a good idea, Marsha.

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 11:09 pm:

Deb, my mom just called me and told me about your dad...
I'm so really sorry to hear this. I'm thinking of you, Ron, your mom, and family. Please accept my deepest , sincerest condolensces. I have many great memories of past times of him and your mom, in Freda, at aunt Frieda's house in Houghton and more.
I'll talk to you soon

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 12:10 am:

I want to add my condolences to Deb and Ron. They made it safely here to Lake Linden, as I talked to them shortly after they arrived in town this evening. Ron came down for some help with photos of Deb's Dad, Ben, for the newspaper and they both said that everyone is doing as well as can be expected. As many of you have said before me here today...we will keep you all in our prayers, during this very difficult time.

The same for the family of Dr. Bill Gregg...what a tragic accident, but if this can be of any consolation, he died working at something he loved. Our hearts go out to all of you....

By Greg Burk (Gregburk) on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 06:50 am:

Deb,

I am just reading of the sad news for you and your family, with the passing of your father. My prayers and thoughts of support are for you and your entire family.

This small community of friends on this site really do care about you, and one another. Stay strong, and please let us know if we can do anything for you or your family.

It is strange, but true, that we all feel as though we know one another here, even though we might only know one another from the words in our postings. I can say this Deb, . . . that your Dad did a great job in being a wonderful Father raising you, by the joyful, fun, spirited, and supportive posts that you always make.

Once again, my condolences.

The picture above seems to fit the mood. I believe the time between twilight and dark used to be call Glomin. there was a song an old friend sang called "Romin in the Glomin". It was a tune about a couple during happier times.
Can anyone help me out here with the words to the tune?

Deb,

I'm a bit late (behind on my pasty reading). I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. I only met him this summer but he left an indelible impression on me.

I'll be thinking about you as you take care of your family.
