Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Friday, October 31, 2008 - 06:54 am:

One season has ended - another season begins, so goes our life cycles, too. As people enter our lives, others depart from us. Our tradition here at Pasty Central is to reserve this day to remember those who have gone on before. This month we note:

Martin (Marty) Drake
Kay Golightly
Robert Houle, Sr.
William Miller
Willard Rheault
Aaron Smith
Servicemen and women who've given their all

Please feel free to add the names of friends and loved ones that you'd like to honor. Special thanks to Peg Riemer for the beautiful Copper Harbor sunrise for today's reflection.

By Lori Houle (Runnerlori) on Monday, November 3, 2008 - 09:28 am:

Mom and Dad are Together and Comforting each other... and through my memories of them and my sister Jeanne's dragonfly story they are comforting me as well. I feel the loss, with both my parents gone now, but I know my strength with return with each passing day and each passing season. He died on Sept 28th, two weeks before what would have been his 90th birthday...October 15th was the day of my Dad, Robert E. Houle's birth, and on that day each year, he planted his blue ribbon garlic. Even in his last year of life, he won another first prize for his garlic at the Houghton County fair. He taught me to plant the seeds and the cloves, each fall on Oct. 15, 6" deep, 6" apart in rows spaced 6" away from each other. Then they must be covered with hay, not straw, because worms eat hay. Water them and let them grow thru till spring... In late summer when the seed tops roll over you can cut them and tie them to dry. Then harvest the garlic and tie them to dry... He told me he "didn't want flowers on his grave, your Ma loves flowers, but all you need to do is bring me some garlic and some brookies and I'll be happy." He was featured here one day 'watchiing his garlic grow'... Here is a picture of his garlic from this summer. Be well, Lori
