Just the other day someone mentioned Oreo the skunk and lo and behold, he popped up in my Inbox, cradled by Barb (Nelson) Wenberg. Longtime Pasty Cammies Barb and Marlin recently were married and for part of their honeymoon, they toured the Delaware Mine. That included cuddling up with Oreo, heading underground to see how it was back in the mining days and of course encountering a bat or two hanging out.

I can't think of a better place to spend your honeymoon, than exploring places in your own backyard like this. Those of us that live here in the Keweenaw, sometimes take these attractions for granted, so it's nice to visit them every now and again. Congratulations to Barb and Marlin, from everyone here at Pasty Central.

Congratulations Barb and Marlin.

Funny thing, my daughter and I were just talking about Oreo over the weekend too. Thanks for putting up a picture for us to see.

I have a picture of Ore in his basket behind the counter at the Delaware Mine. I think I also have one of Oreo just walking around, too. ;O))

We really like the Delaware mine too and Oreo must be a hit with all the kids not just mine. They do a really nice job there. All my pictures are on film so I guess I must go back for digital ones.

Congratulations Barb & Marlin.

My Great Grand Parents, Elizabeth Minzghor and Jacob Getzen were married there in 1865,at that time it was called the Pennsylvania Mine.

I knew as soon as I saw that picture it was the Delaware Mines! I have a few pictures of Oreo, and one is on my study wall.

Oreo's are great with a cold glass of milk!

By Mr. Bill (Mrbill) on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 - 11:11 am:

In speaking with a skunk owner, he related that keeping a pet skunk is a real hassle here in Michigan. The DNR gets involved all the way and there are issues such as a rabies shot, even when there are no vaccines proven effective in skunks.

PS:The present Delaware mine skunk is Oreo II.

My wife and I were at the Delaware Mine about 3 weeks ago when we were UP for color. There were still a few bats flying around as well as hanging on the ceiling. We had the whole mine to ourselves. It is quite a place. It also has great views of the surrounding countryside. We took some great pictures from there.
