Classic Brockway Autumn    ...scroll down to share comments
Photo from Michelle Mukavetz

Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, October 12, 2008 - 08:46 am:

Fourteen years ago the World Wide Web was only a month old. The first commercially available digital cameras were hitting the market. A year earlier, in 1993, Michele Mukavetz observed the scene above on the top of Brockway Mountain at the peak of the color season. Our thanks to Michele for digging this photo out of her Shoebox to scan and share with all of us in Pasty-Land.

Our Pasty Cameo series on Fort Wilkins will conclude next week, with a look at the fort's history since becoming a State Park back in the Roaring 20's. In case you missed the last two Cameos:

Fort Wilkins: Beginnings
Fort Wilkins: Post-military

Edie and I are travelling again this weekend, a beautiful time of year to be seeing the sights in the Upper Midwest. We happen to be in another Eagle River this morning, the one in Wisconsin. Wonder if anyone from Eagle River, Alaska is tuned in?

Have a good week :o)

I have not been on the top of Brockway during the Fall colors since I was a child. Being in education precludes traveling at this time of year. Retirement was going to be in 2010. Now not so sure. Have a wonderful Indian Summer day as it may be ending soon.

I lived near Eagle River, WI for years -- best little tourist town in the world -- had relatives there -- last visit was in 2005 -- Vilas Co,--where Eagle River is, has over 1000 named lakes I am told - and around the town you take a boat through 26 lakes --

My wife bought a copy of the Autumn/Thanksgiving edition of
Ideals magazine, and it made me think that weren't there a few
Autumn leaf photos from the U.P. featured in past Autumn
issues? If they haven't already, maybe someday there will be
Autumn pics from the Keweenaw in an Autumn Ideals.

Charlie you make me want to cry! I just moved from Eagle River, Alaska to Missouri in July. We loved it there and miss it dearly.
