The third annual Fall Fest at Fayette State Park took place over the weekend and by the looks of these photos from Art Brabbs a fun time was had by children of all ages. The historic townsite is located on the Garden Peninsula that juts out into Lake Michigan. You can see that the leaves haven't turned as colorful on the southern half of the U.P. yet, as they are further UP North here. This two day event was developed to help bring more people to the state park during a typically slow part of their season and that it did. The 61 unit campground had 50 sites filled, where they usually averaged 7 to 10 before Fall Fest began. Activities included a campsite decorating contest, trick or treating at the townsite, pumpkin bowling, hayrides, pumpkin painting, and much more. Decorations were quite festive, which added to the already spectacular scenery looking out at the Lake. The bottom picture was their clever way of thanking those who helped to make the festival happen. The signs say, "Thank you for your Bountiful Donations," with each pumpkin bearing the name of those who donated. What a great idea to promote the Park and at the same time, get families out enjoying time together. A win-win situation!

Recognized Fayette immediately...I was there during the summer thanks to a good recommendation that I got from this website.
What a great place to visit.

Great fall pictures. They look like they put a good time together out there.

Gay is a nice little town. My grandpa is from there. We have a picture of my boyfriend standing in front of the Gay Bar sign. We had company come over and they noticed the picture. Of course we had to explain it to them. My mom said that sign has been there since she was a little girl. I am quite sure a lot of people have a picture of that sign.

Spent the weekend at Straits State Park where they also had some fall fest activities, but no-where near what Fayette pulled off by the looks of it. Just wish we had had the time/money for the extra 2-1/2 hrs each way it would have taken to get over there.
(pics will be forthcoming, but I'm a dinosaur with a film camera, so it won't be right away)
