By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 08:57 am:

Happiest Birthday Paul...we're practially neighbors with you in Webberville and me in Lansing. Howdy! I hope you have something special planned for your special day. Today is also my daughter's 16th birthday so the Birthday Fairy will be busy today.

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 09:11 am:

how are the colors in the UP right now?

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 09:13 am:

Along Cliff Drive yesterday we estimated color to be at about 50% in some places. There is still a lot of green, but plenty of orange, red and gold splashed all around.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 09:25 am:

Good morning everybody. Can't believe it's already Sunday. These weekends sure do fly by.

Anybody watch the Wolverines game or did you give up after the 1st half? If you gave up, you shouldn't have. What a game!!!

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 09:40 am:

thanks Charlie, I was beginning to think everyone had me on ignore, especially after asking twice yesterday and not getting a reply.
We're planinning a quick trip on the 11th of October, and was hoping there would still be some color up there.

DEB ... I watched the Badger game Saturday. One of the most disappointing outcomes in a football game that I have seen in a long time. The Badgers just stunk up the place in the 2nd half to allow Michigan to come back like that, especially after the Wolverines looked worse than a class D high school football team with 5 players, playing in the middle of a snowstorm at -20 windchill, against the Packers or something, in the first half.

Then the Badgers fumbling on the 6 yard line going in for a TD...PLUS then to have the tieing points with 13 seconds in the game removed by committing a stupid illegal formation penalty. Then overthrowing an open guy in the endzone again, although the QB was getting rushed pretty hard. I almost threw the TV out the window, except it weighs 180 pounds and I probably would have just hurt myself trying to do it.

Truly a season ending loss for the Badgers, at least in the quest for a BCS bowl game. Although it was a pretty rough day for a lot of the top 25 teams. Badgers now have Ohio State and Penn State. Should be interesting.

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 09:44 am:

By the way, what was that roughing the passer penalty that was called on the Badgers in the 3rd quarter that they never showed? The flag came in 20 seconds , at least, after the play ended. There never was a replay or anything.

That one call changed the entire football game.

I will say the Badger offense was pretty bad. They should have been up 40-0 at the end of the 1st half. Then in the second their defense looked like they totally quit. I was really really POd at the Badger performance overall.

The game did turn out really exciting.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 10:12 am:

Forgot to wish Paul a Happy Birthday.

Also, congrats to Barb. I hope your day was wonderful!!!!

That was one of the best comebacks I can ever remember seeing. I hope they play like that for the rest of the year.

By FJL (Langoman) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 10:39 am:

If they keep playing the Badgers they will..........:( Just got back from the UP. Good color, great food, wonderful people, fantastic weather.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 10:40 am:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Paul!! May GOD grant you many more!!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 10:53 am:

Happy birthday Paul. Barb, Precious and I were married on Sept. 24, 1966. Fall weddings seem to last for a while.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 11:14 am:

Happy Anniversary Mikie and Precious! Wish I'd have known, I'd have sent you a card!!!!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 11:22 am:

Thanks Deb, but the only one who sent us a card was the mother in law. Justin took me out to dinner to celebrate the event. He will take his mother out when she gets the time to go out. She is in the Cathederal choir and right now it is taking up most of her free time. Went to the Texas Road House, Emma, my youngest grandaughter, loved it when the waiters did the line dance. She also loves the peanuts. I guess everyone is busy, but me. The little boys next door are playing train. They have all their riding toys lined up and are making a choo choo sound. Oh to be young again.

A nice selection of pics in the above video. 2ndly, speaking of
football, r there any MSU fans on the Keweenaw Peninsula, and,
if so, did any-1 c them win over Indiana? And 3rdly, Happy
Birthday, Paul, even though I haven't met you. God bless you.

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 06:24 pm:

Thank you all for the B'Day wishes. I've had a great day with all the family here except two sons, one is in the Pacific on his ship and the other is also a ways away. Had a nice cookout. Shirley,Thomas, thanks for God's Blessings. He did that about 6 weeks ago. I had pnuemonia and had to go in the hospital. While there they found reasons for me to have a stress test. I flunked that so a heart catherization was done and they found one artery 99% blocked. A balloon procedure and a stent inserted followed. I am home and doing well! Thank the good Lord for the pnuemonia. David, every play in a football game is a big play! Go Blue!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 06:40 pm:

Yes, Paul, I'd say the Lord surely blessed you. My husband had pneumonia in March 2005, but they didn't do any tests on his heart.....and in July, 2006, he suffered a heart attack in our backyard. Was rushed to the hospital, had by-pass surgery to eliminate a blockage, and thanks to God, he's doing fine. Glad you had a great day today....and very glad you had a different outcome with the pneumonia!

WE HAD THE MOST WONDERFUL DAY. WE STOPPED BY A FRIENDS HOUSE FOR AWHILE THEN WE DECIDED TO GO FOR A RIDE. WE ENDED UP AT A CIDER MILL WAY OFF THE BEATEN PATH OF EVERYTHING. ALL THE WAY TO THE CIDER MILL THERE WERE APPLE TREES EVERYWHERE. THERE WERE APPLE TREES ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THERE WERE APLLE TREES NEXT TO RED BARNS, OLD WOOD BARNS AND BARNS THAT LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE READY TO FALL DOWN. FIELDS AND FIELDS OF GOLDEN CORN STALKS WITH OLD FARMHOUSES NEXT TO THEM. SOME PLACES HAD HOMEMADE APPLE PIES AND A LOT OF PLACES HAD PUMPKINS,TOO. WE HAVE NEVER BEEN TO THIS PARTICULAR CIDER MILL AND IT WAS FUN. IT WAS OUT IN THE COUNTRY AND THE WEATHER WAS PERFECT. WE DECIDED TO GO OUT THERE AGAIN AND SEE IF OUR NEIGHBOR WANTS TO GO WITH US. HIS SON IS (10) YEARS OLD AND I THINK HE WOULD ENJOY IT.

IT WAS JUST A GREAT DAY, HAD FUN. WE USUALLY GO TO A CERTAIN CIDER MILL CLOSER TO HOME, BUT WE JUST DECIDED TO TAKE A RIDE AND HAD FUN. {:O}

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 11:27 pm:

mikillmouse, what part of this earth are you? Sounds like an artist's dream all those old buildings and apple trees. Maybe I can get there next autumn...

By Theresa R. Brunk (Trb0013) on Monday, September 29, 2008 - 08:12 am:

Happy belated Birthday Paul.... I missed all of Sundays 'What's Up'. I try to catch up on Monday morning. I hope you had a good one.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 - 06:40 pm:

Tom (Tom):
I c from your profile you live in Green Bay. My wife and I
visited the Door County Peninsula August 2007. Heard it was
known for cherries. I did c some cherry orchards, but also saw a
lot of cornfields, 2. It's still a nice area, and I'll bet the Autumn
foilage is nice, 2 (not putting down Keweenaw's). Other
areas 4 foilage are Minnesota, and Ontario, Canada, (again, not
putting down Keweenaw's).
