By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - 08:05 am:

Does Alex Protzel have a gallery? I'd love to make that shot my background. It's spectacular!!!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - 08:28 am:

Even if he doesn't have a gallery, go to the home page for Pasty and click on the year you want and find the picture there and then make it your background.

What has happened to the Devil's Washtub?
Years ago there were signs for it's location.

By Liz B (Lizidaho) on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - 01:17 pm:

I believe Devil's Wash tub was/became private property and the family took the signs down for safety reasons.

By Carole (Carole) on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - 01:59 pm:

I believe Devils washtub in now 'private property' and has been for a few years. Used to enjoy going there when the lake was really rolling.

Well, I didn't have to worry about the 2 post limit yesterday. After my last post, we promptly lost phone service until early this afternoon.

So much for good intentions........ ;-)

Capt. Paul...after watching the news and seeing all the damage in Texas, it looks like you may have dodged a bullet.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - 05:15 pm:

Got an email from my friend Barb in Rockport and she was back to her place in just a couple days. Haven't talked on phone yet, but she said there wasn't even a power outage. It happens more when there isn't any stormy weather. I would guess they are over 100 miles south, down coast from Galveston. Galveston is a favorite city of mine in Texas. I recognise the pictures coming from there of that big hotel along the seawall. It's such a shame the town is so badly damaged. A lot of historical places. I've read a lot on the big hurricane of 1900, horrible lose of life. So glad our friends have come thru so well esp Paul and Nat!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - 07:03 pm:

Thanks, Mr. Bill. Computer literate I am not!!!

You can still go to the washtub. There just aren't any signs. But the owner doesn't stop anybody from visiting.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - 10:23 pm:

Rockport is about 200 miles down the coast from Galveston, or about 35 miles north of Corpus Christi; I'd be surprised if they felt anything from the storm.

I would say we dodged a bullet indeed. Had the storm came ashore at Matagorda as a Cat 5 we would have felt it much worse here. Thankfully for us, it turned north upon making landfall and spared us.
