On this day over the past decade, in which 2 years did we catch a glimpse of a kayak?

The Superior's Surf photo looks like Presque Isle in Marquette. I was there in November one year and there were people surfing the waves.

This isn't exactly November, it was actually taken in January 2008, but it's Superior surfing just the same...

I want to wish Uncle Chuck@Little Betsy, Grandpa Norm and Marty safe travels as they head to the great UP! They will all be together tomorrow at Little Betsy. Go on down and say HI! I wish I could come too. :(

03 and 07! Just had to add that! Have a great day everyone!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 08:34 am:

Brrrrr....surfing the Big Lake in August would be cold...not to mention how cold it would be in January (if it's not frozen)! Yikes!!!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 08:49 am:

Yeap...that's how it looked when I was there. A cold, gray overcast day with a few flakes in the air and die-hard surfers. I remember my van got stuck in the ice-covered Presque Isle parking lot. Two people helped push me out.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 09:09 am:

That is one sisu surfer dude!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 09:28 am:

I think I would rather have cold, gray, and overcast anyday over what might be visiting us come Saturday morning......

Maybe I'll still to jam out to "Rock you like a hurricane" after all ;-)

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 09:38 am:

Auch aye, Capt! It doesn't surprise me that the song has the word "Rock" in it.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 12:05 pm:

Maybe we'll see the Doc & Capt. Paul on the weather channel with that as the background music.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 01:48 pm:

Been away from the computer for a few days, so I missed the blessed event, Charlie, so please allow me to add a belated congratulations to your daughter/son-in-law and family on the new arrival, Kira! She's definitely a 'keeper'! Our son-in-law had a kidney transplant on Thurs, 9/4, and is doing very well after a couple of setbacks.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 02:25 pm:

If they keep shifting the forecast track of Ike, there is a good chance that the eye may pass VERY close to our house; wouldn't that be exciting..... NOT!!!

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 04:54 pm:

Good luck Capn. Paul, and also with the inevitable flooding that will come to Houston even if you do not get a direct hit. Let me know how MD Anderson fares, because, sadly, my dear friend has to return on Sept. 20.

Thanks

Just came indoors after settling the gorgeous sunset for the night. And had another visit by my "hummingbird" moth. It comes often to the yellow petunias lining the railings of the deck. What a fasinating creature! Can anyone give me some information about this unusual moth? It's habits, reproduction and range of territory. Thanks already for your help.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 11:25 pm:

Well, the latest forecasts are putting Ike potentially over our house Saturday with wicked high winds. They are already stating power will likely go out with major damage from winds and falling objects (trees). We are plenty stocked up so we should be ok, but we probably wont be on after Friday evening for a few days.......

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 12:16 am:

Capt Paul & Dr Nat, I'm sending you the most positive thoughts that that crazy hurricane pulls off in a circle move, back towards the south of the Gulf of Mexico, or at least that it has the good grace to go in between Corpus & Brownsville, where the word is that there are more cows than people in those counties! If that can't happen, I hope that you both manage to stay safe. If they tell you to evacuate, then please do! I trust that your cars are full of gas, and ready to go, if necessary! (I see that all of Brazoria County is now under mandatory evacuation, beginning at 8:00 am Thursday. I read in the science blog of the Houston Chronicle that Ike is currently headed directly towards Freeport, which is about as bad as it can get, for the greater Houston area! :-( Please take care & let us know, when you can, that you are safe! :-)

By Danbury (Danbury) on Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 04:54 am:

With Ike coming your way, you're likely to be off (-line) for a while, I guess, but you'll let us know how you fared once you're back on, ok?
