We're in the bonus for evening views this week, with several from Stanley Lake in Iron River, taken by Ray Laakaniemi. Either one of these scenes today is right where I'd like to be. Either out in the boat or fishing off the dock, no matter, as long as I'm near the water, enjoying the quiet that enshrouds the lake as the sun goes down. I'm not sure if there's a logical explanation, but there's a natural force that draws people to the lakes and rivers across the entire U.P., so don't try to fight it, come on UP and grab your share of the calm.

When I was a little girl I was taken to Stanley Lake. It was a fishing vacation for my family.

Wonderful pics!!!

I have a buddy who says "A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work"....

I think he's right!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Friday, August 8, 2008 - 07:48 am:

Your right Mary, there is something about this place, the UP. Two weekends ago, I drove up to Marquette (6 hours) on Friday night to go to Fayette State Park on Saturday and then drove home on Sunday (another 6 hours). 12 hours on the road for one day in the UP and it was worth every mile.

By the way, Fayette State Park is a fantastic place to visit and for all you bikers out there, Highway 183 from US-2 to Fayette is a great drive. Hills and curves all the way and a fresh blacktop surface.

When I looked at the first picture, it made me think the dog and the guy near the outboard are involved in a good conversation together.

Beautiful, peaceful pics today. The UP has been calling me all summer, but it doesn't look like I'm going to get there. Unfortunately, there have been too many circumstances that have been getting in the way. At least I can enjoy the Pasty Cam pictures that remind me of how much I enjoy being there.

Look how calm the water is. I like fishing, I'm lousy at it but its peaceful.

I hear the same thing Donna. Your buddy is right. Great pictures today.

Hi
Alex, I'm going to be doing something similar, with slightly fewer hours on the road. I'm driving up to Cheboygan tonight from SE Michigan, then back down early Sunday morning. The northern lower still counts as Up North.

While there, I plan to hang out by the water all day. Even though we're on the Lake Huron side, our bit of coastline points northerly so we get great sunsets over the water during the summer, when sunsets are north of true west.

Alex- Did you, "took a look down a west bound road" and you "rolled that power off"! One day I'll see the U.P. from a motorcycle again, did it twice in the 80's.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Friday, August 8, 2008 - 05:47 pm:

Uncle Chuck, is that verse from another Michigan native's song...."Roll Me Away"? I think the doggie in the boat is saying..."Can't we go any faster than this?" You know how they like to hang their heads out the window of a car, so their ears and tongues will flap?:9 Beautiful, peaceful scenes!

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Friday, August 8, 2008 - 11:09 pm:

Sounds like pasty cammers are Bob Seger fans! I remember when I used to go see him perform at Mt. Holly, late sixties, I think.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, August 9, 2008 - 09:21 am:

I sure am, Marsha, and have been for years. My son used to buy all Bob's albums....so he got me started. Was only in my 40s then, but I still like his music now.:)
