That would be 1999.

In fact, it was the July 31, 1999 Pasty Cam that began our monthly memorial tradition. Among those we honored that month was John Vertin, noted Calumet businessman and longtime owner of the Eagle River Lighthouse, and Ed Meteri, one of the original crew of pasty helpers at Still Waters.

Ever wonder about the pronounciation of Keweenaw?
Phonetically it seems it should be spelled Keewenaw.

My grandparents were from the "Old Country" and were Slovenian. They pronounced Keeweenaw 'Kee vin naw'. To this day I say it the same way. I guess it all depends on the language spoken and accent that we grew up with.
