The Latin motto of the City of Detroit is translated: "We Hope For Better Things; It Shall Rise From the Ashes". Wednesday's Pasty Central Day in History gives some insight to these words.

We welcome back to the U.P. visitors from downstate and returning snowbirds. Good news: hardly any blackflies this year! But... wear your parka.

Good morning everyone. It is nice to get my electricity back. I was without it for two days, which I missed pasty.com.

Good morning! It's supposed to be another rainy day today. If anyone's in need of rain, feel free to come here to get some.

Have a great day!!

Oh, and my mom says "thanks" to all who wished her a happy day, yesterday. Even you, Cindy. LOL

Thanks for the welcome and the bug update. Will be UP there for July 4th.

I remember as a kid swimming at the cabin in the UP and diving every time a black fly would come around. Sometimes they would be gone when you surfaced; sometimes they were still there...as if they knew.

Charlie, who do we complain to about the weather anyway?

Alex, I also nearly drowned myself trying to avoid those guys.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 - 09:59 am:

Brooke...I know what you mean. It was a real battle to see who could hold out the longest, the flies or your lungs.

Thanks for the piece on Detroit, my hometown. In my old neighborhood, so many houses have been torn down that there are now more open fields than homes. You can actually see pheasants walking around. If this keeps up, it will soon look like the UP (not).
