Yesterday I stood in the very spot where I snapped the picture of Verna Kangas 10 years ago... the lobby of the old Still Waters building. As you may have heard, there was some serious vandalism in the building last weekend, and we were there yesterday to sort out several items.

We certainly miss the staff and residents at the Home for the Aged where this web project began more than a decade ago. Hopefully sometime soon the building will be placed back into service to the community.

I love Brita's pictures. The puppy picture is what childhood is all
about. I've come to think of the children in those pictures as
"Brita's Brood." We can't see the mother hen, but we see through
her eyes.

I want to wish my dad, Ben Durocher, a very happy birthday today. He's 81 years old. He'd like nothing better than to be able to go onto this site and see all of the history of the Copper Country that all of these wonderful people represent, especially the old ones like the train picture this morning.

Happy Birthday Ben Durocher! I think you knew some of my relatives. My mom was Donna Koivu from Freda. Her parents were Hilma Tikkanen from Redridge and Raymond Koivu from Beacon Hill. My dad, Art Pihlaja, lives in Mass City now.

I am very saddened to hear of the vandalism at the Still Waters building. Well, nothing's new, I guess, with kids (hope it was kids) Whoever it was, I hope they are caught and face appropriate consequences, and if kids, learn a lesson.

Still Waters was such a wonderful place, and my parents were very happy there.

I am wondering: what happened to the lovely garden?
