You know the saying, "What a difference a day makes"? Well these two shots from Gus Linja illustrate pretty well what took place over the weekend here in the Keweenaw. The snow was here one day and gone the next. Gus was standing on the Traprock Bridge, just outside of Lake Linden when he snapped both of these photos. It's neat that he took a "before" shot with snow and lower water levels, then went back once the snow is all but gone, so we can see how much the river has started to rise and overtake the banks. There were actually some flood warnings for a portion of the Traprock River recently, but that was a section further upstream. Sure hope all this rising water helps to fill Lake Superior back up closer to it's normal levels now, too.

By the way, this week's Pasty Cameo about the CCC appeared a little late in the day on Sunday. In case you missed it, simply click here.

What a difference, and for the better! LOL Yup, here's hoping Lake Superior is on the rise again.

We have the Cedar River in our lower field right now. No longer can see our 5'8" fences! And the worst flooding is coming tomorrow into wednesday.

That cameo about the CCC definitely brings tears to your eyes. What a great endeavor!

Can't see da fence, but ya can "see der river", eh?

Over the years I have met a few men that left the city and worked in the CCC camps in the U.P. In the Mid 70's I worked here in the Detroit area with a few men from Toivola/Twin Lakes area and they were real proud of the days they spent in the CCC and even brought group pictures to show us youngsters.

What road is this bridge on? It looks familiar.

Mary says: This is what's commonly called the "Bootjack Road". You turn at 9th street in Lake Linden. The Traprock Bridge is just outside of Lake Linden, where you would either turn left onto the Traprock Road or keep going on the Bootjack Road to head out to Bootjack, Jacobsville, Rabbit Bay, and other scenic locations.

FRNash, can't see our fences, but we can canoe over them!

Someday I would like to see the Traprock when It's that high. I've seen it after a hard rain and was amazed at how much it could rise in a short time. You can keep tabs on the Traprock by visiting this site. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mi/nwis/uv?04043050
