All this week, I've been trying to hurry spring along with pictures of running water, bare roads and now today, melting ice, supplied by Karl Berg. Of course, it officially IS spring now, so hopefully the meltdown will continue and progress quickly. In the meantime, Karl has something to keep us occupied while we wait. His second shot here is a stumper and I have no idea where it is, except to surmise that it's somewhere on the shores of Lake Superior. So, can anyone tell us where in the U.P. Karl is standing while clicking the shutter button?

I'm going to go with a cave along the shore near Munising - Pictured Rocks - area. Just saw a tv special about people walking out along the ice over near Bayshore/Apostle Islands to view the ice sculptures along the cliffs there too.

Awesome photos! The first one is puzzling as well. It looks like ice frozen on a window.

These are wonderful pictures! The first one is especially awesome! Thank you, Karl Berg and Mary!

I think the second picture, which is terrific, too, is in or near the Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore.

Is it from inside a cave or one of the old sandstone charcoal kilns?

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Friday, March 21, 2008 - 09:39 am:

Interesting observation Richard…the edges around the opening look rather jagged.

Congratulations Karl especially with the first photo. That one is worthy of Dan Urbanski or the Z-Man!

Does anyone know what is happening with the copperharbor.org website? It hasn't been working for the last couple of days.

Oops! Meant to post this under What'sUP.

Brooke was asking about Mt. Baldy yesterday. Karl has some great shots of Mt. Baldy on his gallery-very creative too. Also, the Nature Conservancy does have a large sign and gate at the entrance to the trail. It's a very stony foot path but if you have the appropriate shoes you'll be fine.
