So many regular visitors to these pages asked us to give an update on the birthday boy whose picture started this daily feature 10 years ago. A new digital camera - a request for an "online" announcement - a reason to be on the Internet - all of the ingredients came together to start something for which we haven't missed a day in the past 10 years.

If I remember correctly Alex's birthday is February 28, but it was not a leap year in '98, so the next day (March 1) we just kept up what had been started. As that first week went along, my son Jonathan (a student at MTU at the time) went around and snapped scenes of interest, and I published them each evening. Somewhere along the way we shifted to morning updates... and here we are a decade later with the return of the birthday boy who hepled kick things off, lo those many years ago.

Thanks again to all who have had a part in this daily journey - photo contributors, visitors, staff and friends who have kept us going with your encouragement. Thanks also to the sponsors who have helped make it possible over the years.

...and thanks Alex, for being such a good sport :o)

Cute boy!
Speaking of cute boys, on 14 February I asked Pasty-Cammers to go on line to the Oshkosh Northwestern and to vote for my grandson for Cutest Baby. I am happy to say that thanks to all your votes, Levi was named the Cutest Baby of 2007! It is supposed to be in tomorrow's paper. If there is a link, I will add it tomorrow. Thank you, everyone!

While living in Florida I used this web page to keep in contact with things going on back home in the Copper Country. It was on this web page on Christmass Eve in 2001 that I came in contact with a very beautiful woman also living in Florida that had grew up in the Copper Country like me. We both had family that had lived on Bumbletown Hill. In 2003 we were married on Bumbletown Hill and have lived near our family on Bumbletown Hill since than. Our life is a happy one. Thanks to Charlie and the Pasty Cam for having such a great influence on our lifes and the lifes of many other people all around the world.

CONGRATULATIONS on your TENTH ANNIVERSARY, Pasty Central. I have been with you every step of the way and it's been a joyous ride for me and so many I have contact with around the country. We marvel at the beautiful work you've done over all these years and your generosity in "sharing" with all of us. Super article in the Daily Mining Gazette today about Charlie's Pasty Central...hope you all get to read it, online if you don't have it delivered. ;)

Why Marvin congratulations! What a wonderful romantic story. Guess the CC blood wins out hey? Hope all your future is as good to you two. And what's Mrs. Marvin's first name?

By Marvin P. Manninen (Roadtech) on Saturday, March 1, 2008 - 11:27 am:

Her name is Kathleen. She is as beautiful as the view from the top of our hill.

Happy birthday pasty.com and thank you for all the beautiful photos of the place I call home even though I have been gone for 27 years. Always remember, there are only two kinds of people in this world, Yoopers and those who wish they were Yoopers. And I am proud to call myself a Yooper. Born on the best side of the Portage Bridge, the north side.

Happy Birthday to Pasty Cam and a big THANK YOU to Charlie, Mary, and all the folks at Pasty Central who make it possible. I can't begin to say how much this daily look at my birthplace, the UP, has come to mean to me over the last few years. God willing, I'll actually be able to come UP for a visit soon!

Once again, Happy Birthday and many happy returns!

Happy Birthday Pasty-cam. I sure enjoy visiting with you on-line every morning and seeing the pictures that reaffirm my connection to that part of the country. Thanks for making it all possible with just the click of a button.

Congrats Pasty Central on ten great years. My work and family keeps me running between Forida, California and the Southwestern U.S. However, we (wife and I) got our summer home in Calumet 2 and a half years ago and we could not be happier about it. Your website has been a daily 'fix' for many years now and keeps me counting the weeks til I cross 'da bridge' in May. The U.P. described as 'Someplace Special' is simply an understatement. Thank you for the daily pics and keep up the good work.

Happy Birthday Pasty Cam!

I discovered this site in 2002, and have been coming back daily ever since.

This site and the photos and stories on it have inspired me to take several trips to the Keweenaw & Isle Royale, that I otherwise would not have done.

Thanks Charlie, Jonathan, Mary and all the rest, for your labor of love.

Happy 10th Birthday!
Looking forward to many more.

This site is all important in so many ways.

Fellow Yoopers that have moved use it to keep up on the news, announcements have been made, our friends and family that have crossed over...have been honored here monthly. Our fellow Patriot, Walt, keeps us updated on the killed/wounded in Iraq. Big news for everyone...makes it here. It's been used as a teaching tool around the globe...the visual helps to "tell" people about our "neck of the woods"....this is a STELLAR site!

Thanks Pasty!

It's been a great decade...looking so forward to round two!!!

By Donna (Donna) on Sunday, March 2, 2008 - 07:03 am:

And thanks for helping to kick start it Alex!

By Joseph Geshel (Calumetkid) on Monday, March 3, 2008 - 08:25 am:

I just rediscovered this site and plan to attend to it regularly. I remember it form about 1999 but many computers later I had forgotten about it. Congratulations on 10 years. I played baseball and hockey against Marvin Manninen as a young boy. I am glad he is happy on Bumbletown Hill. Nice story.

What a lovely little cameo. This fortunate boy will have many great memories to look back on. Nothing beats being a kid in da UP!
