In keeping with our theme this week of creative ways to deal with snow, here's one from the Guest Gallery. So many wonderful folks have contributed to the Pasty Cam during the last decade. Olivia Bartlett may be one name you remember if you were a Mining Gazette reader in the early 2k's. Not only did lots of her shots get in the paper, but she shared a few our way, like this scene from downtown Houghton in 2003.

By the way, our Shoebox Memory and Pasty Cameo about the Motor Toboggan must have brought a lot of people to the eliason-snowmobile.com website this week. On Wednesdays night the latest URL traffic ratings are announced, and the folks in Sayner, Wisconsin saw an increase of over 1 million places in the list of most-visited websites (of which they track 20 million). In case you missed Sunday's show, the Cameo icon next to the day on the main page is where you can find it. And today's What'sUP page has another tweak in our multimedia upgrade. See if you can find it.

Eating the Copper Country snow is fine, and can also be argued to actually be healthy...just be sure to check the COLOR before enjoying! Goooood Mmmmmmmorning, Keweenaw!

Olivia Bartlett, what a pretty name. Sounds like the name of a character in a novel. You're right on, David. LOL! One must also beware of scooping up smart pills with the snow when traversing snowshoe hare habitat.

That copper kettle shaped sign reads Haugs Jewelry. Haugs was a beautiful store that sold not only jewelry but collectable items as well. Hey had an awesome selection of collectable figurines and jewelry.

Morning! We have just a smidge under 16 in. of new snow here on the farm...got a lot of plowing and "panking" to do!

So just exactly how much is a "smidge"?? Is that like a "hair", or more like a shade?? Maybe a gnats whisker?? ;-)

I imagine most of the students are still sleeping off the all-nighter from last night; I know I did when I was there.......

UP snow tastes ~so~ much better than any other.

Capt Paul, a smidge is more like a sliver. Oh those classic long ago expressions from grandparents!

I agree with Janie. More like a sliver, but a hair shorter.

Of course, a smidge could also be close to a "tad" or how about a "scosh" (not sure of the spelling there, promounced with a long O). I also remember swimming through the bleary-eyed throng of would-be students today, as they (we) flounder through the motion of college life, and admire each other's handiwork from the night before. I'm not sure that the day was particularly fun, but the memories - and sharing them - certainly is; like fine liqour, I guess. The memories we manage to keep get better with the years!

I see the Ambasador in the distance, on the right, in the picture of Houghton. There are many who would argue that there is only one place to go for pizza; hot pizza and cold beer in the evening...cold pizza and warm beer in the morning.

I do hope that we can see some of this year's snow statues from Winter Carnival, though, in addition to looking back, please, for those of us who are not able to be there in person? :-) Thank you.

Nice snow pictures, going to check out the sculptures this weekend since last night was too late for the little guy. I want to see the dogsleds they will have on campus!

Do gnats HAVE whiskers???

Cindy, I believe they do, but they are, of course, as fine as frog's hair. Also, I doubt anyone has ever witnessed one shaving, so one would be left to assume that gnats might also have beards? Have a pleasant evening!

Just a thought, maybe the snow from up in the trees hasn't changed color yet. Unless there are snow fleas up there. :o)
