One of my favorite spots in the Keweenaw woods appeared as the memorial photo eight years ago today on the Pasty Cam. My dear Grandmother Ada Wood passed away that month. Yesterday our Uncle Eddy passed away, and his name is on today's memorial tribute. The older we get, more of our friends and family are on the other side. May we always have the calm assurance knowing that someday we will join them.

Good Morning, Everyone from mid-Michigan, on the day between two storms. Tonight, it will be here we go again, as we have a Heavy Snow Warning. It is real winter here this year.

That is a beautiful picture this morning, Charlie! My deepest sympathy to you and your family on the loss of your Uncle Eddy.

No matter how rich you are, you can't buy more time.
No matter how poor you are, you won't receive less time
We will all have 24 hours on GROUNDHOG DAY

a truly beautiful hymn.

Good morning everybody! Heat wave here, it's only -4 this morning and is supposed to get up to +10. Amazing!

that's the fattest snow snake i've ever seen - must have eaten a raccoon

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 09:36 am:

So sorry to hear about the passing of Shawn's mom on the preceding page. My prayers are with all of you who have lost someone recently.

Because of this wicked cold snap, my pregnant dtr. lost power yesterday. Then when it came back on the furnace wasn't working well (and never warmed up the house), so they called the furnace man. He said the hot water pipes around the baseboards had frozen in spots. So they bought 3 ceramic heaters and she and her two girls stayed the night at our house, while her husband stayed there to keep an eye on things. (He's also dealing with an abcessed tooth and a major knee problem.) Well, at 12:30 a.m. we got a call that hot water heat pipes had burst flooding everything upstairs and down! It's bad enough having a sink pipe burst, but this is major! So they'll be doing lots of repairs today.

The question begs to be asked. What day is Groundbeef Day? Sorry, couldn't stop myself.
Mr. Deb

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 09:53 am:

Is it before or after 90% GroundChuck day? And you make a toast to the day with a shot of Cold Duck!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 10:00 am:

I am really sorry to hear of your daughter's heat problems, and your son-in-law's tooth and knee problems, Marsha.

I heard that some of the water pipes in Douglass Houghton Hall at Mich Tech burst last night. I do not know how bad the damage is, but at least one quad room was badly hit.

LOL at the Groundbeef/GroundChuck/Hamburger Day, topping off with a shot of Cold Duck! There should be some of those around, I would think. :-)

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 10:45 am:

Oh yes!!!!! The snow is coming :) And from the looks of it, someone must have been doing the snow dance, because we're expecting up to a foot of snow. Definately a soup day, eh. Running to the market to get some ingredients for brocolli cheese soup.

By Jacobsville (Barb) on Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 10:52 am:

Sur5er,

What time should we be there for dinner? I LOVE brocolli cheese
soup!

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 11:10 am:

I do, too, but hold the broccoli!

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 12:41 pm:

I often check out the pasty.net spotlight link on the preceding page. The King Copper Motel website is beautifully done. I went from there to the lighthouse site and sent it on to our 4th grade teachers, who do a unit on Michigan lighthouses.

By Mr. Bill (Mrbill) on Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 02:47 pm:

They're not susposed to be here this time of year, but a pair of loons are diving in the shallows of Superior off Bete Grise.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 03:04 pm:

Must be pet loons...based on that saying: "Must be crazier than a pet loon." Whatever that means....???

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 05:21 pm:

The timer just dinged! Breakfast pasty for supper time!! Yummm!!

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Thursday, January 31, 2008 - 06:36 pm:
