Superior sunsets have been a recurring theme over the years here on the Pasty Cam. This one started off the month of November back in 1999.

As we promised in October, there's a new discussion area for ongoing dialog about topics of interest, available for registered users only. See: Politics, Religion, and Whatever

Good morning from MN. It's November already, where's the snow?
Mr. Deb

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 07:51 am:

It's nice to see the lake calm like that.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 07:53 am:

1999, before 9/11...I can hardly remember what that was like.

By Cindy, New Baltimore, MI (Cindy) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 08:11 am:

Today is the actual 50th birthday of the Mackinac Bridge. The fourth graders at my school will be having a birthday party today. We have planned lots of activities centering around the bridge and we will end with a big birthday cake that will feed our 120 fourth graders, not that they need any more sugar after Halloween trick-or-treating last night.
Pasty.com is a daily connection to the U.P. for those of us who live below the bridge. Today, I'm very grateful for the Mackinac Bridge because if I had never been able to easily cross over the straits to the U.P. I wouldn't understand what Pasty.com is all about. I wonder how many people would have actually seen all the places we love in the U.P. if we had to wait for ferries or drive around Lake Michigan to get there. So, happy birthday, Big Mac!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 08:15 am:

Good Morning, Everyone. It is hard to believe that it is already Nov 1!

I heard it was not calm water up in Copper Country yesterday! I hope it is a lot less windy today or at least this morning, because my son was flying from Houghton down to Detroit for a job interview. Gale force winds don't make good flying weather. :-)

Have a good day, everybody.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 08:20 am:

Happy Birthday Big Mac! 1957 was a very good year. ;-) Can't even count the number of times I've been over the Bridge.

By Lorelei (Lorelei) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 09:06 am:

Deb S, I was in Menards on Tuesday and there was Christmas music playing. I really couldn't believe it.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 09:25 am:

I start playing Christmas music early. I figure we don't listen to it for very long so I'm going to start early. I love Christmas music. I never tire of it.

By Koke (Pjk3000) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 09:45 am:

BJmilford, I would think going to your house anytime would be a treat. What is wrong with children these days. We had ours on Sunday unfortunately we were not at home.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 10:02 am:

We had a good turnout, my neighbor passed out my candy and we all ran out.

Mr Deb, No Snow! I will be moving in a few weeks and don't want to deal with it until after Thanksgiving.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 10:18 am:

Only had a couple of the little monsters at my daughter's house in Holt last night. I think the rain was a factor. I remember trick or treating in my dad's warm and wooly hunting clothes because the snow was up to our knees (granted, our knees were closer to the ground then).

By k j (Kathiscc) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 10:32 am:

Now that the cold and snow have held off this long, we decided it should hold off until after Dec. 18th when we can pick up our new puppy- in Ohio! Have to drive under Lake Michigan to get there-snow belt. We are excited. Once we get him, it can snow all it wants- especially Christmas Eve.
Happy Birthday to the Big Mack!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 10:55 am:

If it has to snow, then we need to have a white Christmas! That is the one time of the year that I actually like snow. I'll take snow over ice any day of the year, though. :-)

By Ray Laakaniemi (Rlaakan) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 11:09 am:

If I had a dollar for every time I crossed the bridge, I would be retired. But come to think of it, I am retired.

By Liz B (Lizidaho) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 11:48 am:

I remember that my Gram and Gramp went down St. Iggy for the grand opening of the bridge. Being in 4th or 5th grade I wasn't quite sure why the big hoopala. When we went to Muskegon to visit our other grandparents, we were always asleep when Dad drove onto the ferry.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 12:14 pm:

I'm with Deb...I love Christmas music. I dug out all my Christmas CD's the other day :) Plan on starting to listen to them, sometime today, after I get done working outside.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 12:25 pm:

I'll never be a person who complains about the Christmas season beginning too early. I love the joyousness of the season, no matter how long! They say Christmas is too commercial, but if that brings on the spirit of the season (with all it means), then go for it! I listen to one particular Christmas CD year long, and that is one my daughter (now 26) recorded a couple years ago. It is what I call "a hot chocolate by the fire" type of CD, not a "fa la la, jingle bells" CD.

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 03:46 pm:

Cindy, thanks for the reminder about the 50th anniversary of the Mackinac Bridge. We have a vacation place outside of Cheboygan, on Lake Huron. The bridge is one of our favorite landmarks...and kind of a Stonehenge. Our bit of coast faces northwest. Around July 4th the sun sets a bit north of the center span and gradually sets closer to the southern shore as the summer advances.

On another topic, I have a Lake Superior calendar here at work. Turning the page today, the November page is also a Pastycam "WOW" from the week of November 5, 2006. Hopefully the link below will work. In any event, the picture, of surf hitting the shore under gray skies, is captioned "Presque Isle 11-footers"

Speaking of calenders, the 2008 Trout Unlimited calender only has 29 days in Feruary as opposed to 2007, when it had 31.
Mr. Deb

did they forget a couple leap years and are trying to catch up?

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 06:31 pm:

kj Kathy...what breed is your new puppy! Congratulations!

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 11:11 pm:

This is the Katiaire (which is our kennel name) Kathy. We are anxiously awaiting our little Airedale boy to grow up enough to come home. I have really missed having a male Airedale as part of the family. Actually, he was born on the day we lost Poppy..."kismet" at work. Thank you for your interest.

Terriers rock!!!
