Morning all!!

We felt nothing from Humberto last night, just a nice cool breeze from the north which managed to drop our humidity down to a more tolerable level. Although now the computer models want to bring the storm back out in the Gulf this weekend. But, what do the models know?? this time yesterday it was just some clouds in the Gulf that "might" develop into a depression....... boy, were they wrong!!

Wow, Capt Paul! You guys didn't even get a little bit of rain?

I have been watching tropical storms and hurricanes along the Texas Gulf Coast since the early 1960's, when my parents & I moved there. I don't remember anything suddenly turning into a tropical storm even, let alone a hurricane, when it was so close to land, in all of that time! That is just wow! Come to think of it, I heard the weather guy here mention that the Texans needed to watch for a possible depression that could form off the coast, yesterday morning, but I did not think anything of it, with all of the heavy rains they have been having since May.

No wonder oil prices hit a record high. Humberto went in over the most concentrated area of oil refining capacity in the US early this morning. The only good news seems to be that it is not sitting still doing more damage, and it did not sit out over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico any longer than it did, so it did not intensify anymore than it did. Watch our gasoline prices here spike, probably as early as today, though. Over 100,000 people were without power the last I heard.

Not a drop of rain where I'm at west of town, but Houston proper got about 0.5 inches and Galveston got about 4 out of Humberto. About the only thing we got from the storm was a nice cool breeze from the north which dropped the humidity, but not the temps.

Now the forecasters and models have Humberto re-entering the Gulf off Mississippi and arcing back towards Texas something next week, so we may not be done with it yet.
