My nephew Cody flew along with Jonathan and pilot Hank Scheltema eight years ago over the Copper Country. Cody was snapping the Pasty Cam out the window as they passed over the Portage Canal.

Mornin' All!!!!

By John W (Jwahtola) on Thursday, July 19, 2007 - 09:25 am:

Good morning. Still no real rain here in central Hillsdale county. It all goes north or south. We have only had less than 2/10 of an inch this month and only 2 inches in June but we will survive.
Heading to the UP on Saturday. Yea!

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Thursday, July 19, 2007 - 09:51 am:

Good morning all.
John, not much north of you in Ingham County. Just a couple of sprinkles. Combining and haying is going great, 2nd cutting is kinda short.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, July 19, 2007 - 10:07 am:

Paul, the 13 in. of rain has sure ended our drought, but has left a lot of damage. In north-east Iowa, and south-western Wis. a section of RR line is in the Mississippi, cars and sunken boats are in the Mighty Miss as well. Houses are sliding off foundations, heavy mud slides, I could go on and on. Thankfully our home-front just got a massive watering for our yard.

In Ontonagon we just had a few big thunder boomers, little light rain.
In Sanford they had a tornado touch down yesterday! That is scary.

overcast in Berkley, brown grass, but I have managed to keep the garden watered.

By Bill Denning (Parpagayo) on Thursday, July 19, 2007 - 03:22 pm:

I just noticed a little after 2:00 this afternoon that the airport web cam showed a Northwest Airlines jet on the runway. Looks like it had quite a bit more capacity than the 33 or so seat Saab turbo props.

Was this a one time occurrence, or has NWA expanded its service to CMX and/or MQT?

Cheers, Bill

We just had a storm come through in Dexter, the tornado sirens were going off.

By Dennis Harju (Upsuomi) on Thursday, July 19, 2007 - 04:04 pm:

Hot and dry in Wyoming (high 90's) heading to the moutains to cool off. Wish I was driving to the U.P. but had to cancel my summer vacation. Maybe I'll have a white Christmas in Michigan instead. Stay safe and dry if you can in the rain soaked states. Wow 13" is more than we get in an entire year!

Fantastic picture of the canal!

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Thursday, July 19, 2007 - 05:08 pm:

We normally do not have rain in July or August. Not since 1849 have we had rain, the gold rush days, but we set a record here yesterday, we had 1/300th of an inch, enough to wet the mud on the power lines and knock the power out in the city for a while. Had it rained a little harder maybe our lites would have stayed on. :DDD

I'm oh so happy to be UP here. Still planning to head to Aura.

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Thursday, July 19, 2007 - 06:44 pm:

John, I was in Hillsdale for a family reunion this past week-end and can attest to the fact you guys need rain. I thought we were dry in N/W IL. There was quite a bit of rain all around us last night, but we only got a 1/4 of an inch. The storms seem to split and go around us.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, July 19, 2007 - 09:21 pm:

Hi everyone. Love the overhead shot of the bridge.

Kosk, glad to hear you made it safe and sound.

By John W (Jwahtola) on Thursday, July 19, 2007 - 10:51 pm:

Winds came thru and cooled us off but still no Rain. Places north of here(mid Hillsdale county)got rain.
