Eight years ago the Pasty Cam really crossed the line. The state line, that is. This year, do we root for the Lions or the Packers?

By Erik Nordberg, MTU Archives (Techarchives) on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 - 07:18 am:

I know how folks here on the Pasty Cam like their food. Well, food is the theme in the Copper Country this summer as a series of exhibits, festivals and presentations explore the region’s rich food culture.

The Daily Mining Gazette ran a detailed article in its edition on Tuesday, July 10. Here's a link to the article, which includes a detailed listing of all events:
http://www.mininggazette.com/stories/articles.asp?articleID=7714

In particular, I'd draw PastyCammers attention to events this coming weekend: 1) a grand opening celebration at the Keweenaw Heritage Center, Friday, July 13, 6:00pm, 2) a presentation by Tech historian Larry Lankton on "Keweenaw Foodways," Saturday, July 14, 3:00pm, and 3) a Victorian Tea with the Friends of Fashion at the Laurium Manor Inn, Sunday, July 15, 1-4pm (there is a small fee for the Victorian Tea).

The events are anchored by two traveling exhibits which will remain open to the public through Sunday, August 26 at the Keweenaw Heritage Center in the former St. Anne’s church, Calumet. Their is no entrance fee and the exhibits will be open 10-5 every day of the week through August 26.

Key Ingredients is a Smithsonian exhibit depicting our national food culture. Michigan Foodways is a Michigan State University Museum exhibit exploring our state's food story by examining Michigan’s rich agriculture, its diverse ethnic cuisines, and its special culinary traditions. The tour of these two exhibits is made possible through efforts of the Michigan Humanities Council, the state’s independent, non-profit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

According to Space Weather, Jul 11 to Jul 13 would be a good time to look for Northern Lights. Happy hunting. May even see some in the Low P.

Marsha, I'd like to upgrade my profile, but when my original profile was posted along with email address I got blasted with spam, many with 'pasty' in the title. That computer actually died a little bit later, so I'm nervous about that.

I have gotten contacts from several relatives through this site, and I have contacted some people who post here, and have read posts from people that I'd truly enjoy meeting. However, I still don't feel confident about giving out personal information.

Just a thought. You may want to reconsider removing where you live from being posted.
Gazing accross the state line in the picture into WI, it looks the same as MI. I always heard it was different over there !

By Cheryl Rozman (Cotton) on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 - 11:37 am:

Happy Birthday Sur5er!!!!
POsing a question to all of you people. What's your opinion of a law enforcement officer committing domestic abuse & also rape while being employed by the law enforcement agency? This is happening right in the UP. Also in the State of Michigan there are mounting cases of this happening with law enforcement people committing these crimes. Some have murdered his/her spouse!!!! Do you think there should be legislation made pertaining to this? I'd like some thoughts from you on this if Mary & Charlie will allow it.

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 - 11:57 am:

Happy Birthday Renée.
Wishing everything wonderful, happy and joyful for you. I hope that your dv legislation sails thru for approval, that your move to the UP is uneventful, that you get a really good job in the field that you like, that you get the home you always wanted near the Lake, that you can dip your toes in Lake Superior real soon, and let the sun keep shining on your face and keeps you smiling, that your life can be happy once again. Be Happy!
Beverly

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 - 02:15 pm:

Happy birthday Sur5er; thanks Erick for the info. When we passed the sign last vacation the grandkids said: Whoop Dee Do! (irrational Texans)Wouldn't know God's country staring them in the face.

By FJL (Langoman) on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 - 02:49 pm:

Where does it say that the law allows rape, domestic abuse and murder by anybody???????

By lz (Llamamama) on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 - 02:58 pm:

Reminds me of the sign I passed everytime I made my way back to MTU from the Iron Mountain area. Always a wee bit odd to pass from MI to WI back to MI to get to school.

Sigh, another bittersweet memory.

But on a happier note! Happy BD Sur5er!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 - 03:26 pm:

Happy Birthday, Sur5er!

By Janet Boatman (Janetnwohio) on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 - 03:58 pm:

Domestic abuse, rape and murder is awful no matter what walk of life you are in I think you just notice it more when it happens to someone in the field of law inforcement. There is no law passed that will stop this from happening to anybody I wish it would but sadly it won't. Looking forward to Saturday because we will be in Eagle Harbor for a wonderful week, wahoooooo.
