This shot of busy downtown Mohawk which appeared 8 years ago today on the Pasty Cam was actually a doctored photo. We wondered what it would look like of all the overhead wires and poles were removed.

Good morning from steamy hot Houston.

Interesting pics with and without the wires; gives you sense of what the landscape would look like without electric. Even with the doctoring Charlie, I think you missed a couple; I still see a couple wires and a pole in the background of the large photo.....

Can't please every-body Charlie........

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 - 08:29 am:

Good Morning, All, from soon to be hot, steamy mid-Michigan, where our predicted high for today is 89. The numbers may not be as high as those for Houston, but to those of us who have lived in Michigan for over 25 years, that's really hot!!!

I like the picture. It looks like you guys had great fun with Photoshop, Charlie & crew! Photoshop is why I can't fully trust photos anymore, unless I have the image & can look at it in Photoshop. :-) It's too bad that lawyers, judges, & juries don't understand that a picture is no longer worth the paper they are printed on for evidence in trials, since you can add or subtract people or objects or whatever, pretty much at will.

I don't know how many Pasty.comers watch Jay Leno, but if you
saw him with his Monday news-items the other night, you saw
how parochial he can be. That segment of the show features
newspaper items from around the countrywhich seem silly to Jay
(and whoever sent in the item). One of the items had the
headline "Mom's Pasties." Ha, ha, eh? Actually, here in in Esky
we have a business that sells "Grandma's Pasties." I suppose Jay
and his audience would have groaned even more about that.
Hey, I have to tell you, writing these little items to Pasty.com has
kind of gone to my head. It has encouraged me to send in a
little quiz item to WLUC-TV in Marquette. Each weekday night
Carl Bohnak is asked a question about the U.P. submitted by
viewers. I sent in one last Friday, and it appeared last night.
Carl got it wrong which is neither here nor there, but it does
tend to encourage a fellow to try again.

Morning all!! Boy that area of Mohawk sure has changed since the last time I was UP home. I remember there used to be a bank right in the middle of the pic where US-41 curves to the left, and the old Mohawk school was on the right.

The area in mid-Mich where we have our cottage has all underground utilities. All you see is trees and sky!!

A while back there was a picture on Pasty Cam of a eagle and a crow. Can someone tell me who's Guest Gallery that is in.

Well, my wife and I are back from a bike ride along and
thru our Ludington Park along Little Bay de Noc. The
bay was glassy-calm. Beautiful! It is already warm and the temp
should hit 75 today here along the bay. The same was true
yesterday. Meanwhile, Marquette and I supose much of the rest
of the south shore of Lake Superior hit 90 yesterday. I never
thought about it before, but the place to be in the good old
summertime in the U.P. when the wind blows from the south (if
you want cooler temps) is along the north shore of Lake
Michigan. Further north it is a lot warmer for obvious reasons.
Interesting.

charlesinesky,

Good job with the TV6 Quiz. My guess was the Ontonagon, but one of the five counties that it's located within is in Wisconsin.

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 - 01:16 pm:

Does anyone know Pam and Don near Rice Lake? Don is from my home town. Eagle Harbor and Lake Linden are also home to former Webbervillians! Speaking of overhead wires, our church is about to build a new facility. We have to relocate 3 electric poles at a very substantial cost and also bring in 3 phase service about a half mile which will add another tidy sum to the project.

Charles/Esky...saw that on Leno and I couldn't remember how the plural of pasty is writtem. All I could think off was "Duh", Jay...I remember when my sister Pat (aka Patsy when little) got a birthday card from someone that spelled her name P-A-S-T-Y. Of course I thought that was a riot!

for you guys not living the UP...another way to get our favorite toat: TRENARY TOAST ..in case you weren't aware of this
http://www.trenarytoast.us/

pretty cheap too...I don't know about the shipping, though

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 - 05:36 pm:

did a trial checkout..which will become a sure thing :)
40 oz (4 bags) of toast is $8.33 to my home in Wisconsin....not too bad $5.07/bag ....
worth every penny...although I may try to see if they still sell it in Green Bay anywhere.
There was a pasty joint on Webster that sold pasties, sausage, Trenary Toast, and other great UP favorites, had the Daily Mining Gazette..but the last time I went by there, they were closed

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 - 06:12 pm:

We used to pick that up for my Aunt before heading downstate when I was a kid. She had to have that and Hard Tack, and Grandpa always picked up Pasties at The Red Onion and we would eat them on the beach for lunch before crossing teh bridge.
