Main Street Calumet... of course this was taken years before the formation of Main Street Calumet, the organization. Several years after this '99 Pasty Cam shot, the Main Street organization would be awarded 'Person of the Year' by the Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance. We are grateful to the Main Street Calumet for making our longtime dream of PastyFest a reality.

Good morning! Your up early John!

By john mich (Johnofmi) on Monday, June 11, 2007 - 05:19 am:

or should that be Good "Moaning"?

By john mich (Johnofmi) on Monday, June 11, 2007 - 05:24 am:

Paul, I'm not up early, rather I am up late. Ol' Sol and I are on opposite schedules.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Monday, June 11, 2007 - 06:18 am:

good morning, Know what you mean about the moaning part. Sky is blue but it is cold here in Berkley Michigan. Even Jimmie the fat cat wants to cuddle this morning. I am sitting at my desk with an afgan and a twenty two pound cat on my lap. When my Mom got old she started to make afgans for everyone for some reason she made about ten of them for Precious and I, mainly since Precious would live under them for ten months out of the year. Being from Hubbell I prefer it on the cooler side, Precious says I am just too cheap to turn the furnace up. Now that I am getting older I like to use the afgans myself. We are doing better since the accident both of us moan and groan when we get up which upsets the kids they think that we are hurting more then we are. My daughter Michelle has been a godsend, she and her kids moved in with us and left doctor Brian in Manistee to keep his practice going and to spend all his spare time fishing. Danielle spends the time after teaching all day with us and runs the errands. Kelly comes over and cleans up after dinner is over. Dinner has been provided by our friends so it is easier on Michelle who seems to spend most of the day doing laundry. I am so lucky to have such good friends and family.

Hey Mary where is my "early bird"? I need to go out and spend it. I'm a little short of cash today.

Hi Danbury, We did this on purpose on April Fool's Day a few years back, just for a joke - Daryl

Morning everyone! Mikie, glad you have so much help and improvement is noticed.

Forgot yesterday to wish my mom, June Durocher, a happy 77th birthday. Had a busy day. I called her first thing though.

5:17 in the morning for the Early Bird?? Too early for me; I cherish all the sleep I can get!!

I remember seeing the "flipped" page a few years ago. We thought the PastyCam crew must have really gotten into the suds that night until we realized it was April 1.
Sounds like you have it "maid" there Mikie ;-)
Glad you and Precious are doing better....

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, June 11, 2007 - 09:18 am:

Good Morning, Y'all from mid-Michigan, where we are going to have another beautiful day, weather-wise! I hope you all have a good day.

That's interesting that there was almost a tie for Early Bird at 5:17 am! That's way too early for me most of the time!

Mikie, I am so glad that you & Precious are doing better and that your daughters are such a big help for you! If it makes you feel any better, I woke up freezing at 5 am this morning & got more covers & went back to sleep. :-)

Welcome back, Mary! We missed you. How is your mom doing? I assume that the trip home went ok?

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, June 11, 2007 - 09:33 am:

I forgot to mention that I have always loved the brick streets in parts of Calumet. It kind of reminds me of the old parts of San Francisco, where I saw my first brick street. Those are so cool!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Monday, June 11, 2007 - 10:09 am:

I was getting my shoes on for a walk this morning at 5:17. Fit by Fifty! That's my new motto!

BTW--Wow! MTU's web cams & the other web cams in Copper Country show what looks like another perfect day UP there! I hope the weather is as good when we come UP for a couple of days later this month!

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Monday, June 11, 2007 - 01:15 pm:

Hello everyone, such a nice day. School is out tomorrow, the whole rest of June is going to be sooo quiet. My son is spending it at his dads, and as soon as my daughter is back from VA then both kids are going to my parents in TN for a week. I have no idea what I am going to do with myself, I think I am going to lay on the couch and listen to the sound of nothing (until that bores me). I am not going to be "Mom" for 3 weeks, I am going to miss them.

Glad Mary is back. Hope your Mom is feeling good and Kevin is cheering up.

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Monday, June 11, 2007 - 08:41 pm:

Glad you are back and especially happy to learn that your Mom and Kevin are on the mend. That is just wonderful!!

Glad you're back too, Mary.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Monday, June 11, 2007 - 11:05 pm:

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the welcome back! Sure has been some stressful times of late. Mom is home and I'm staying with her for a little while until she regains some strength, but thanks to John and Jordan, I'm all set up with an awesome Pasty.NET wireless connection, so I can once again resume my daily duties.
Hopefully Mom will bounce back from the ordeal she just went through. When the plane from University of Mich. hospital flies UP here to get you downstate for surgery, you know it's a very serious matter. The only good thing about the whole experience is that I was able to visit Kevin!! He's has actually been released from the hospital as an outpatient now, still having to go in three times a week to the clinic to get things checked out. His counts and such are all doing what they should be doing right now and that's a good thing!

Thanks to all for their care and concern during these trying times. Please continue to keep us all in your prayers.
A special thank you to Charlie for taking over the daily duties during such trying times.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 - 12:37 am:

Mary, I knew as soon as I heard that your mom was flown down to Ann Arbor that it was a very serious matter! My prayers are with her for a full recovery. I suspect that it may take her a while to regain her strength though, at age 83.

I'm really glad that you got to see Kevin. I wonder if he's getting bored now, that he's doing better? Does he have a computer & access to the Internet? I'd go crazy without those, myself.

These certainly have been very trying times for your family! I can't imagine losing your father-in-law, having Kevin's transplant surgery, & then your Mom's emergency serious heart problems in such a short period of time! My godmother used to tell me, "This, too, shall pass...". My prayers are with you and your family in this trying time!

By Danbury (Danbury) on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 - 03:47 am:

Good to hear about your mom and Kevin, Mary.

Now that it is menitoned, I'm wondering if I haven't seen the upturned edition before ...
