You can almost smell the rain in this shot at Esrey Park from eight years ago. If it rained this morning here in the Copper Country, it just might be snow (temps in the 30's)

By the way, check out the new website for The Hut Inn.

Good Morning from Ontonagon!

Good Morning, Everyone, from frosty mid-Michigan. It's ironic that they did not issue a frost advisory for us here, yet it is colder here this morning than it is in Houghton, who does have an advisory. NOAA's meteorologists for our area don't always issue the advisories, watches, and warnings for our area that I think they should, so I sometimes check the areas just north or west of us for their advisories, and abide by those. :-)

Good morning everyone. It's going to be in the 80's today. Where was that yesterday when I wanted to go fishing? Oh well, it's spring and that's what you can expect I guess.

Shots of Esrey Park are always a welcome sight!

I hope our extended forecast (for Memorial Day) is somewhat accurate. Last year, it was over 90 here in mid-Michigan, if I remember correctly, on Memorial Day--that is really hard on the kids in our high school band. They have to march about 4 miles in the parade in their heavy, hot uniforms! (Some of the other bands in other parades in the area marched without their uniforms last year, but not ours.) This year, they are talking about it will be only 70 degrees--that would be terrific for us. Please hold a good thought for us!

Good Morning on a sunny Monday!

Good Morning. I like the new website, Charlie.

Marianne, it never fails what they dress for they will get the opposite. We did not wear our wool band uniforms and wore matching shorts and t-shirts one year. That year it was cool and we froze our butts off. I went to Pinckney and since our school district covered such a large area we actually marched in the Hamburg and Pinckney parades. The district actually has students with home phones with 3 different area codes (only 2 when I was there). I graduated with a large class of 220.

When I directed the Band down in Hillsdale County, we
often had the paramedics follow the Band in the
parade. It seems like we always lost at least one
musician due to heat. Here in the UP, we don't have
that problem, but the Black Flies eat the kids up real
bad instead.

Good Morning from Chicago! An expected high of 82 degrees today. Congratulations to Stacy Kramer(Kivela), who graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law with her juris doctor. We wish her well in taking her bar exam in July. Another Lake Linden-Hubbell High School graduate(class of 2000). Parents are very proud of her success....

Speaking of black flies--those are wicked little critters. I forgot when they are out UP there? I remember we ran into those little critters while we were playing golf many years ago at Keweenaw Mtn Lodge, and they were no fun at all. (But the course was a lot of fun!)

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, May 21, 2007 - 01:42 pm:

MusicTeacher, I know there were some casualties (ie heat exhaustion, minor heat stroke, etc, requiring medical attention & hospitals, in some cases) in the Memorial Day parades of some of the towns south of us last year. My son was in middle school last year, so he just wore a light shirt & that school's light-weight blazer. But, this year, he's in the high school marching band. The high school has heavy wool uniforms, with wool pants that come up to the chest, held up by suspenders, heavy wool coats, & topped by heavy double-sided satin capes, plus their heavy band hats. Ughh! I don't know how the kids from our high school did last year, because we did not know the older kids then. I'll have to try to find out from some of my son's older friends this week.

Anyway, we are hoping for a cool day for all marching in that parade all over Michigan! This band doesn't just straight march, either. They do a whole body dance/march step at a fast tempo, the entire route. It really is quite a work out for kids who might have gotten a little bit out of shape over the winter. :-)

Good Afternoon. I just found this website and think it is great. I have not been to the UP since my college days. Now I would like to show it to my family. Does anyone know of a nice cottage available for rent on an inland lake the week of July 14th? Thanks
