This had to be one of the northern-most locations of a traffic light ever in the state of Michigan, along US-41 between Phoenix and Copper Harbor. It was back in '99 when this stretch of highway received a makeover, updating some of the bridges.

By the way, don't forget the Parade of Thanks in Houghton/Hancock tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m.

Wow! You guys are up and at it early. I could hardly peel my eyes open at 6:20 this morning. I have a feeling this will be a looooooong day....

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, May 18, 2007 - 08:30 am:

I want to thank all of our veterans, current members of our armed forces, and members of our National Guard and Reserves for their service to our country! You all are what is keeping us all safe and free! I am sorry that we cannot get up there for the parade tomorrow to show our support for you. Thank you, thank you.

TGIF! It is a beautiful sunny day in the Copper Country today. I sure hope the sun shines on the Armed Forces parade tomorrow in Houghton/Hancock. But I will be there rain or shine showing my respect for all the vets and their familes. I attended last year and it was absolutely awesome. My heart was just bursting with pride as the veterans and families paraded past. My son will be in the parade marching with the Jeffers band. They were the only band last year to participate and I hear there will be more schools this year. Thanks to all who organize and participate!

I always enjoy the Pasty.net Spotlight. I checked out the Daily Weeder today. What town is that lady from? I'm assuming that the Sharon she speaks of is not Sharon Smith.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, May 18, 2007 - 10:33 am:

The parade is a great idea. We saw some kids in the 4th of July parade in South Range a couple years ago with a banner that said "We're proud of our Dad" since he was overseas. I know someone out there has a picture of that! My camera was AWOL then.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, May 18, 2007 - 01:55 pm:

Oh those wacky Keweenaw folk; they'll throw a parade for anything, no matter what the occasion!!! ;-)

Calling: Maija, Capt Paul, Marianne, Bobbysgirl, Deb S., David H.,SMF, gotta purchase and stack firewood next week, any takers? I'm buying the pasties, just kidding of course! We're leavin Wednesday of next week, can't wait, I need a little R&R, no better place than the C.C.!!!!!!!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, May 18, 2007 - 03:22 pm:

That's awesome, Uncle Chuck! I wish we could get up there next week, but my youngest doesn't get out of school until June 6, & he has to play in the high school's symphonic band for graduation that night. The real bummer part of that is that as parents, we can't get in to hear the band play, as he is only in the 9th grade, he's not a graduating senior. :-( It is a great band. They had their spring concert this week, & it was awesome!

I'm really happy for you getting to go up there so soon! I hope you all have a great time, great weather & no bugs! :-)

We are looking at going up there sometime in the last half of June, right now, but my Mich Tech son has to check his schedule, because he's supposed to go on a recruiting trip sometime for MTU, and he didn't have the dates yet, the last I knew. Meshing calendars with kids & parents these days is almost a job in itself. :-)
