A trio of treats to brighten a Monday morning, from Z-Man, Ashley Byykkonen and Tom Cook, respectively. The trillium Z-Man captured is a perennial that you'll find growing wild in the woods this time of year and for the survival of these beautiful little flowers, this is the only way you should take them home...in a photo. Picking them seriously injures the plant and it could take years for it to recover.

Ashley's choice of flowers is a mystery to me. Other than knowing they're pink, I can't tell you anything more about these little beauties, but I'm certain someone will be able to give a name to them for us. :->

I love the way the pansy in Tom's picture is standing up so straight and tall, almost like it's telling the dew deposited on its petals, "Thanks, I needed that!"

I love the gorgeous pictures of the spring flowers this morning! They are so bright and happy, especially on a Monday morning! I love the pretty in pink flowers! And, pansies will always have a special place in my heart because my mom loved their "faces" so much. The pansy that Tom captured with the dew drops is awesome! Thank you for a happy start to our Monday morning: Z-man, Ashley, Tom, and Mary!

They could be creeping phlox, but I have some and the flowers look so much smaller than these. It could be the angle of the shot though.

Drove to Ashland wisconsin yesterday at 5 am
the only white I saw in the woods was SNOW!

Left at 5 am and it snowed all the way to Ashland.

Driving home last night the sun had come out and the woods were again white, but full of TRILLIUM!

Especially between mass city and Bruce crossing beautiful mass clumps of trillium, thumbing their noses at the cold ;-)

Trollperson is correct! That is creeping phlox, one tough little flower, very hardy and sweet! I have it planted everywhere. Shades range fom pink, to light purple, to a deep purple.

If you go to the Redridge (or maybe it's Freda) cemetery, you see creeping phlox all over the place. I love it. It's so pretty. Wish it'd stay colorful all year long.

Snow is a four-letter word this time of year....

Great pictures of the flowers! Waaaay back when I was little we used to have Trillium in our backyard and they were always one of the signals that spring is here. I found a place on the internet that sells them. They are not cheap, but I splurged and ordered one for delivery next May. I have a nice cool shady place under an apple tree that should work well for it.

What a pretty flower the Trillum is! I don't believe they grow in Memphis - it must be too warm here. I read on Wikipedia that "Trillium is one of many plants whose seeds are spread by ants and mice. The ants take the seeds to their nest, where they eat the elaiosomes and put the seeds in their garbage, where they can be protected until they germinate. They also get the added bonus of growing in a medium made richer by the ant garbage." ... It's interesting that Trillum is so fragile and the creeping phlox so hardy. The Pansy is one of my favorite flowers - we can enjoy it's beauty here through much of our winter season. The pictures are all lovely - what a nice way to start a Monday morning!

I heard that deer like to eat trillium. I know I have seen a more abundant carpet in an Ann Arbor city park (County Farm Park for those of you who're familiar with the area) than in some of the nature centers or state parks.

Does anyone know the state of the wildflowers down at the Straits of Mackinaw, near Mackinaw City in particular?

I bought some trillium here at a plant sale the Nature Center(Chatt) had. These grow to be a foot or so tall with a fairly large flower.I noticed I have another one coming up in a different area. i think the ones up north are prettier.

Near Mackinac the trillium are at their best; this week's warmth will probably end them. Not too many morels this year as it has been very dry.
