On this day when we give special attention to our Mothers, I hope it is a pleasant time with your family. This couple and their boys seem to be enjoying the day, perhaps after Sunday dinner, relaxing in the shade. It's rare to see an outright smile in photos of this vintage, but Mom is obviously pleased to be surrounded by her men.

The construction of the house reminded me of the mining home at Central, which you can tour here in the Copper Country, near the Visitor's Center maintained by Keweenaw County Historical Society. All across the Upper Peninsula you can step back into time and experience the heritage of the region in photos and hands-on exhibits, thanks to such organizations. For today's picture our thanks to Negaunee Public Library for their part in preserving the visual history of life in the U.P.

Have a good week :o)

Happy Mothers day all! My son sang me a song and his class grew Snapdragons for all the moms for Mothers day, as I mentioned yesterday flowers are not a skill of mine. So if anyone can tell me how to keep this thing alive so I don't break my sons heart I would appreciate it. I think I need to replant it, beyond that HELP!

Thanks Mary, lets hope I can follow directions. My mom is convinced the only reason my kids are alive is because they make noise!

Remembering my mom today, my first Mother's Day without her. I'm glad she lived long enough to know that all 3 of my daughters were to be moms. My oldest announced her pregnancy just prior to Mom's passing, and is enjoying her own first Mother's Day today.

A very Happy Mother's Day to all of you out there.

TO MY MOTHER
When Jesus decided to send me
From Heaven's skies of blue
He searched the wide world over
For a women,kind and true---

Someone to love me always,
Someone to keep me spotlessly new,
One who would realy want me---
He wished His own Mother could do.

But then,at last,My Jesus found one,
Who was as good as she could be,
She had been waiting,yes longing
For a little boy like me.

So,He wrapped me in a fluffy cloud,
Tied with a ribbon blue,
And slid me down the rainbow,
Yes,Mom---to earth to you.

Can you imagine having a baby in the 1800's. That is a scary thought.

God bless..........

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, May 14, 2007 - 09:33 pm:

Helen, that is a scary thought. Many mothers did not survive child birth, and many babies did not survive the first year after birth, for starters. And then there was the lack of vaccines for various serious illnesses, like small pox, whooping cough, measles, influenza, and you name it. People had to remarry quickly after the death of a spouse for sheer survival, to take care of the kids, etc.

People today don't seem to have a clue about how easy we have it today, from many, many standpoints.
