Each day here on the What'sUP page we highlight the Picture of the Day from 8 years ago on the Pasty Cam. Somewhere along the line in those early days we introduced the "Big Picture", and then later the daily discussion with each scene. From now on we'll post that larger format each day, along with the link to the week in which it appeared (just above the photo - Eight years ago).

In those early years, most of the daily pictures came from my son Jonathan, who at the time was a junior at Michigan Tech. On this particular day he took his own sled over the river and through the woods to Delaware Days, for a little snowmobile drag racing.

Looks like fun, although I'd rather see them doing this on a sanctioned track then in the middle of the woods.......

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 - 08:33 am:

It was +1 this morning. At least it did not go down to the predicted -2! We're looking at some more snow here tonight, about 3 to 5 inches worth. I do hope that Spring is just around the corner. We may see 40 early next week; that would be a really welcome break! Mr Groundhog missed it again!

Very cold here too, Thought my Coke was going to be safe in the car. Not so much, I'm drinking a slurpee fresh from the can.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 - 08:46 am:

A Coca Cola slurpee sounds good, actually, if it were warmer outside! It's a good thing that it didn't have a chance to freeze solid, though. They can freeze solid & expand enough to break the can. That would be a giant sticky mess.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 - 09:35 am:

That happened to me once, thank God for carpet shampooers with attachments. I thought I was safe since it warmed up I should know better.

Charlie, love the new link back to the weekly menu from eight years ago! It's nice to be able to read the captions that went with the original pictures.

Once put an 8-pack of Coke bottles in the freezer to get it cold for a party that evening and then forgot about it. We heard some muffled thumps, but didn't realize what had happened until opening the freezer to find spongy brown ice over everything. What a mess!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 - 02:05 pm:

I would like to say that we have learned about the exploding can or bottle trick when freezing over the years, but my husband or one of my three sons still put cans of Coke or Dr Pepper or Sprite, or whatever in the freezer to get them cold in a hurry. They intend to take them out after a half hour or so, but then they get distracted and forget about them until the next day, when someone opens the freezer to find the super-sized mess of pop sprayed all over! :-)

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 - 02:34 pm:

Have them set the timer when they put a can of pop in the freezer. If that doesn't help them to remember, make them clean it up. That should help them learn not to do that. :-)

I don't believe there ever has been a problem replying to or asking a question. It's called "a discussion" and we have had some very intresting talks. There have been multiple posts a number of times about different topics without any problems. The rules seem to be felexable up to a point. Let's not abuse them.
