Good Morning everyone! 23 degrees, sunny, blue sky peeking out here in Houghton. What a relief for now. Running out of places to put the snow. We had about 15 inches of snow from this storm since Thursday night.

Hi Everyone! Painesdale is just beautiful today. The snow and sun make it absolutely gorgeous. If only everyone could see what I see when I look out my window, the world would be smiling.

Have a great Sunday everyone!

UP in the national news today. Guess the dude tho't the place where no one would find him would be the UP. Wrong!

By Victoria (Mumbarko) on Sunday, March 4, 2007 - 01:24 pm:

Well he really wasn't in the UP though... close but not really. Emmet county is in the Lower Peninsula.

Victoria, I should have remembered that "Northern Michigan" doesn't necessarily mean the UP. I had forgotten how people are not careful about that. What the reports should have said was "northern lower Michigan". When will they ever learn? Thanks.

By kathie Murto (Murtomania) on Sunday, March 4, 2007 - 03:10 pm:

Our reports in Rochester Hills, did say northern lower MI. I have been following that case for almost 3 weeks now, every night on the news. Did you get to see the news report that shows him walking down the street IN FRONT OF THE POLICE while they were searching his house. something else eh?

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Sunday, March 4, 2007 - 03:14 pm:

No, I just heard about it yesterday and then details today. On CNN online, the reporters were talking to neighbors who were all just shocked. (CNN is also the one saying 'northern Michigan'.)

to Charlie and editors: You may have done a fix, but now I can't get back to last week by clicking on a picture.

Thanks for pointing out the glitch, which was easily fixed.

Re Northern Lower Michigan news:

From the Detroit Free Press: Grant nabbed in massive manhunt
and from the Petoskey News-Review Suspect in Wife's Dismemberment Captured

By Carole (Carole) on Sunday, March 4, 2007 - 04:13 pm:

The Grant case is a real horrible story with a nightmare ending that has been on every local tv and radio station, not to mention on the front pages of our papers. It has even made front headlines on CNN and FoxNews on the internet. They caught the husband sometime early this morning near or at Wilderness State Park which is abut 13 miles west of Mackinaw, Mi. So to a lot of people that is 'up' north, or northern Michigan. Apparently when he was caught they had to fly him to the hospital in Petoskey because he was suffering from hypotermia. They lived in Washington Twp. Michigan and their neighborhood borders Stoney Creek Metro park. This park is really nice and we spent a lot of time there when we lived closer to it. Lot of trails, picnic areas, a few little lakes, and in the winter a hill for sledding and toboganing. Very popular in the summer.
I just never imagined that this tragedy would have this kind of ending. Those poor innocent children.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Sunday, March 4, 2007 - 06:47 pm:

Earlier, I had heard that they had been looking in Emmett County (near Wilderness State Park, near Petoskey), based on tips. Tips also mentioned the UP as a possible place that Grant might flee to. Mrs. Grant was apparently raised in Perkins, MI, which is in the UP, for starters. I'm not sure if there were other possible connections to the UP or not.

It is a horrendous story, one that makes one's blood boil. This guy acted suspescious from the very beginning, something like Scott Peterson did a couple of years ago. And, the fact that he and his (now former) attorney refused access to the police to the Grants' recent computers, he would only give access to ones that hadn't been used in some time. That should have been a red flag in the very beginning. (His attorney quit this morning, if you did not hear that.)

eugenia,

upper peninsula is upper peninsula (maybe eastern
or western up).

northern mi is always northern lower mi.
west mi is always western lower mi. and i
believe that east mi, south mi, and
central mi all refer to lower mi.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Sunday, March 4, 2007 - 06:50 pm:

It was a beautiful sunny day in mid-Michigan, today, too. The sun was a very welcome sight after the weather that we have had this week, to say the least.

I hope you all had a chance to enjoy our weather today.
