Michele Blau brings us some of the action from a recent race event at the Mont Ripley Ski Hill, complete with a smiling competitor, number 37! Michele says this youngster is part of the Mont Ripley Race Team and from the size of that grin, I'd say they must have done pretty well in the race. The second shot is #37 in action, taking on the ins and outs of the slalom course. Looks pretty tricky to me, I think I'll remain a spectator!

P.S. The Bridge Cam is working again and taking new pictures from dawn to dusk. The link for the Bridge Cam is at the very bottom of the page.

I agree on remaining just a spectator!

Seems scary to me. I used to think I was good when I would ski down the hills of Lake Linden. I would ski down the hill that my aunt lived on and go right through the intersection. Real smart. I think the ski hills would have probably been safer.

Pretty talented kid, I will stick to watching them.

What a cute little schusser! Did I spell that right?

By Dorothy Stewart (Bootjackbabe) on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 - 08:42 am:

Cute picture. Nice to see the little ones out enjoying the winter fun. We spent hours playing in the snow as children---better than watching TV----but then again--we had no TV!!!! Schools are closed here in Columbus, Ohio----too cold for the kids at the bus stop!! Burr.

Makes me wish that there were actually hills out here in North Dakota so I could snowboard...

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 - 09:54 am:

That little guy is really cute, with a cute grin! It's great to see kids doing physical activities outside. It sure beats video games (I've never let my kids have those), TV, and just sitting around inside.

Derek--there are hills in North Dakota--you are just too far east. There are really pretty hills out in western North Dakota, especially near Roosevelt National Park. But, I don't know whether there are any ski resorts around there, or not, so you may have to climb them, rather than take a ski lift up the hills. :-)

By derek tuoriniemi (Derek) on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 - 11:13 am:

yeah, ive been out west before, but any hill that north dakota has to offer would be better fit for sliding down on sitting on a garbage bag rather than snowboaring...i did get out to the rockies in montana a couple years back, now that was the ticket, interesting story here, as im in the rockies in montana, i pick up a 'skier/snoboard world' magazine and what is the cover story? none other than mt bohemia!

Thank you Charley for all that you do.

Derek, bet you do wish you had ski hills in North Dakota. Well at least everyone knows the state after watching the movie, "Fargo".

How Cute .....eh

I sure hope he doesn't meet the same fate the little 6 year old after Christmas met......a Tech student plowed into him and sent him to Marq. Intensive Care for quite a while....I talked with his Uncle a week or so ago and he said he is home and doing better ...... I work book rush with the little boys grandpa.....He still remains in my thoughts and prayers trusting he will be good as new soon and not suffer from this accident all his life.
I am way to chicken to try.....I close my eyes when I get scared.....not a good thing going down hill....lol

May all you who ski remain safe!!!!! God Bless
.....xoxo

I started on skiing on the hill by the west Hancock hill in 1947 then moved up to MT. Ripley, they called my brother and I the shoosh boomers, straight down the hill on plywood skis with round wood edges. In layman terms no edges, means no turns, no control, and no stop until you run into something. With us it was the lift line that stopped us. I was not to good back then but In the next 50++ years I think I have skied about every Mountain in the West worth skiing, and got real good at it. Now at 67 Years Old I still love it and am planning on going to New York tomorrow. I usually tire out in about 4 hours so I save my money and don't go to the Rockies anymore.

North Dakota is also known for the "Fighting Sioux" as well.......

Way to go George-- What an inspiration you are!! Oh how I wish I had the guts to start snowboarding. I used to skateboard before it was "cool"-- but now at 40+ years old, I'm afraid to try snowboarding as things break more easily now then when I was a kid and in my teens and 20's -- I dunno maybe some day I'll get the guts to learn, but I don't think Mt. Ripley is really a place to begin. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's a pretty fast group of hills-- I think I need a Swede Town run for learning LOL

Deb S. Im originally from L.L. too ! That will always be 'home' for me but right now I'm just a wee bit south of the cities.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 - 09:07 pm:

Laure, When did you live in LL? Are you as far as Owatonna?

By Laure (O2bindaup) on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 - 07:22 am:

Deb... I left L.L. in "78 when I moved to MN... and now I'm in Burnsville. Owatonna is only a few miles down the road !

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 - 07:27 am:

Laure, I left LL in "78 also. Weird, huh? I first moved to ND though. Don't want to move back there ever. Been here since '86 and have to say I love MN. But I'd like to live in Michigan from about May through October, lol. And of course I'd like to live on the Big Lake but would settle for LL.
