Eight years ago, January 1, 1999, there was plenty of snow for sleds and saucers. After a wet three or four inches last night, skiers are happy, but hoping for colder temperatures and that big old lake effect machine to finally kick in.

Happy New Year from Toronto on a day that started out to be warm
and sunny but has progressively become gray (grey in Canadian
English) and windy.

A good day for reading, writing, eating leftovers, keeping an eye on
the football games that relatives are sure to comment on when the
New Year's Day calls begin, and easing into returning to "normal
life" tomorrow.

Happy New Year from Mishawaka, IN where it's damp and dark. A few snow flakes this morning and now some light rain off and on.

Kosk in Toronto, I'll be on my way to the Toronto area on Jan. 19th. The Mishawaka High School boys basketball team will be playing Georgetown on the 20th. Last trip was so much fun. I'm looking forward to this trip. I keep the scorebook for the team.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 02:44 pm:

I posted a Happy New Year many hours ago, but I see it's gone. So, I wish everybody out in pastyland a very Happy New Year full of good health, prosperity and most important, love.

Kosk, happy to see you made it back home safe and sound.

We got about an inch of snow here in Minnesota yesterday. So, I think we have the Copper Country beat. Unreal!

Deb, I saw your posts and can't understand why they got deleted. Trust me, I know all about deletions, such is life, sigh.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 03:39 pm:

Happy New Year from Genesee, MI! Just finished our annual New Year's Day tradition in which the hubby cooks dinner: pork chops, stuffing, sauerkraut (simmered almost 24 hrs.), and green beans with almonds. Dessert was chocolate mousse with dark chocolate shavings. Sumptuous! Now, if he'll only clean up! He has a bad habit of using every pot, pan and dish when he cooks. Now he's delivering the leftovers to my daughter (who's having a miserable day of bronchitis while 8 months pregnant) and a small plate to my mom who turned 91 this week. Then I'll do the evening visitation later with my mom (which means I have to watch Judge Judy and Judge Joe). Then I tip her off on what shows to "watch" after I leave. She can barely see, so I have to pick shows that are enjoyable for her to mostly hear: not America's Funniest Home Videos! When I talked to her this morning she informed me that Renee Fleming is a better singer than Audra McDonald! PBS is great for Mom, a lifelong learner!

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 03:48 pm:

Marsha, you are making my mouth water, love sauerkraut! Bless you for being such a good person.
P.S. Would love your New Year's recipes, yummy!

By Danbury (Danbury) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 04:06 pm:

As to the disappearing posts, might just have something to do with the technical difficulties Charlie mentioned in yesterdays What'sUP?

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 04:29 pm:

Happy New Year from Knoxville Tennessee where it is grey and gloomy 48* HANG-Over earlier today.Turkey with all the fixins, greens and black-eyed peas for us today, and more of the hair of the dog that bit me.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 04:31 pm:

Technical Difficulties? Isn't that a term used by someone that doesn't have a clue? Like me or like you? I always use that term, when I'm trying to be firm. Hey, I'm "rappin"!

By FJL (Langoman) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 04:38 pm:

Congrats to WISCONSIN. Nice win....... Is that post still lost???????? Sombody find her post!!

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 04:39 pm:

For some folks it was just another day of pushing the Refresh button.Well Technical difficulties are better the a SNAFU.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 04:45 pm:

Somebody find that post! Thank you FJL! Deb is a very nice person and shouldn't have her posts deleted.

By FJL (Langoman) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 04:50 pm:

Could the "spelling and grammer" police have it?? Maybe it hasn't past the post inspection.......

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 04:54 pm:

Happy New Year from Tuscola county in the thumb of Michigan.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 05:06 pm:

No spelling and grammar police could have my post as there were no errors in it. LOL But I think the technical difficulties must have been the problem cuz I got on here pretty much right after the picture and they were still having difficulties. Such is life. I just wished everybody a Happy New Year a little later.

Marsha, that all sounds wonderful. Been sick for the past 2 days so am just having ham and fixin's. But that all sounded so great that, like Joanie, my mouth was watering.

On Wisconsin!!! Now go Michigan and then go Ohio State and could we possibly finish 1, 2 & 3? That would be FANTASTIC!

My goodness! I can't believe how many parts of the country have wished us all a Happy New Year! How great to be able to hear from so many people across the country. Thank you pasty.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 05:18 pm:

Deb, so sorry you haven't felt well, it was sure hard to tell, you seemed to be in your good 'ole merry spirits. Hope you feel better!

Deb, have you looked under the couch? I have a pair of cats that love to take my post(it) notes, chew them to unreadable, then deposit them under the couch. I'll look, maybe your note is under there.

By P.Weed (Pweed) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 06:25 pm:

Happy New Year from Zephyrhills Florida!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 07:17 pm:

Well my pasty buds, this may be an unpopular remark but I'm going to make it anyway. I've been watching the football game and I'm going to say what I've been saying for years. Lloyd needs to go. He is not a good coach and can not win the big game. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. I can't believe Michigan has kept him for so long. He stinks!!!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 07:29 pm:

Deb--This is unrelated to your last remark, but your New Year's
greeting is available. Check the Temp file at the bottom of today.

By the way, the game is a slow one and I have people letting me
know all about it here in Toronto, in the UP and in Vancouver where
our former pastor resides. Sigh... And I did my part. My husband
and I, both U of M grads, used U of M napkins at supper tonight.
Also, I hummed "Hail to the Victors" in my head.

Hey, Langoman--Glad to see that Wisconsin did so well.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 07:40 pm:

Yeah Kosk, Am wearing a Michigan sweatshirt along with a Michigan t-shirt but to no avail. I think they're driving now. I hope it's not too little too late.

I, too, am happy about Wisconsin.

Wolverines just scored! Hoorah!!!! Hail to the victors!

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 08:32 pm:

A late Happy New Year from GA, where it was 68*F and muggy this AM (after 2 days of much-needed rain)but is now clear and 45*F, heading to 33*F. Except for one very cold spell, it's been a mild winter so far.

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 10:18 pm:

Another late Happy New year from Ga! It was mild but dreary here today. It just poured down last night when I went for takeout. The roads were like rivers. I hope that 2007 is a great one for all of us.

By Susan Caryl (Gilbsulmum) on Monday, January 1, 2007 - 11:01 pm:

Carole....I grew up in Fenton...have been gone many a year....are we still arch rivals? We finally got "the rock" nailed down....no more 'thefts' with goats left tied in place! :)

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 - 12:55 am:

It's not even in the area, but Boise State just knocked off Oklahoma! I think it's great to see the so-called little schools knock off the big boys. Congrats to the Broncos!
Mr. Deb
