By Jay Lukkarila on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 07:41 am:

Nice website. It's ten degrees in Western Massachusetts this morning, hardly any snow on the ground, and rain expected tomorrow. I wish I was in the UP, but my wife the Californian, would have a heart attack. She can barely handle these wishy washy New England winters.

My father, Walter Lukkarila, and I are writing a book on the Mass Consolidated Mining Company (1899-1999). Nick Lukkarila and his father, Jafet Lukkarila, both worked there. Anyone have any pictures, stories, or artifacts they want to share?

Hello Dave of Laurium: Wondering if your bed and breakfast is still open with the coffee brewing? I think you are selling yourself short. Question: Why does Shelly and Jeff get to cook, and Candy and I have to shovel? Are you afraid that I might make Elvira's pasties topped with habaneros? :)

By Dave, Laurium on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 08:20 am:

HHHeeelllloooo Elvira, I was wondering what happened to you. What have you done to the pasty lately?? You betcha, coffee's on, B&B is ready.... may put you to work shoveling or using the snowblower though. Hope all is well in Elvira-land.

By Elvira on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 08:25 am:

Dave, the habaneros are hot enough to melt the snow. Still interested?

By Jen-GR on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 08:34 am:

Dave, thanks for the snow and ski report.

By maijaMI on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 09:07 am:

Dave, please email me with info about your B & B. I'm very interested in possibly staying there when I come up in February.

By Debra, Muskegon, MI on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 09:22 am:

Dave -

Would you please e-mail me also the information regarding your B&B. When my fiance and I get married next September, we want to spend our honeymoon exporing the Keeweenaw and surrounding areas. Any info. you have would be great. Thanks!

By Dave, Laurium on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 09:34 am:

Elvira...bring em' on! Everyone else, I really don't have a B&B, it was just a little joke that took on a little life of its own a while back. But I could certainly give you some B&B info for the area if you'd like. And, push come to shove, if they are full, arrangements could certainly be made. I would hate to see anyone miss an opportunity to visit this area. sm

...habaneros are hot enough to melt the snow...
Now there's an idea for MDOT - use habanero juice instead of salt on da roads!
Oh darn, the habanero juice would also melt da tires, and if you think salt is rough on the bodywork, wooooh!

Hey, all you travelers/visitors. Just go to the bottom of this page and click on "Home" and look at the listings under Keweenaw Chamber and Keweenaw C&V for lodging options (it seems like people forget that there is ahomepage to this site). Enjoy your visit!

Now Dave, is that anyway to treat a lady. I really believed there was a B&B. I suppose you are now going to tell me there is no Santa Claus.

By Janie, C.R., IA. on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 09:39 am:

Joan in Ohio (See Camnotes): did that irresponsible puppy owner get turned in for abusive animal treatment and fined or punished some how?

By Dave, MT on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 01:01 pm:

Janie, C.R., IA. It may have been better to list this on another page, but I had to say something. If your favorite pet happened to acccidentally die during a cold spell, ran off a cliff, got caught by a coyote, hawk, or perished in some other fashion, would you want your neighbor to push to have you prosecuted, jailed, or fined?? I don't think so! Attitudes like yours are running America into the ground. Accidents happen, and lets just be thankful it wasn't a human. Drive safe, wear your seatbelt, and be kind to one another!

Have a Merry Christmas!!

By ohlala on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 01:59 pm:

Dave..., glad you posted those shots of Calumet. We have a dusting, but I am sure the snow mobilers will be gearing up, if they haven't already. Very cold. When it is this cold, there should be 2' snow cover, eh?

Hyvää päivää: Joulu, joulu, tullut on juhla armahainen. Hyvää Joulua Onnellista Uutta Vuotta. Beverly

Really nice pictures Dave. :) I recognize the first three and #2 & 3 are probably landmarks, but am unfamiliar with #4. Where is that?

By Missin the UP from NJ on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 03:36 pm:

YOOPER!
You post the cutest graphics! I look forward to them each day.. Thanks so much for providing a laugh or a giggle a day!
Sweet!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!

By danbury, missing his cat on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 05:01 pm:

Didn't seem that accidental to me (the puppy), more like kinda stupid, to keep it low, but then, perhaps they didn't know better - meaning they'd be "punished" enough, perhaps?
Anyway, now's not the time to argue. Way to go, Beverly. How nice, but, er, what're you talking about? ;)
A side note about E-Mails: I'm having constant trouble with mine recently, know of at least three that didn't reach me, and several I send to friends that didn't go out either, despite being registered as such. So, whoever should get mail, bear with me!
Until then ..., no, too early for that, but thanks for those mails I haven't answered - till I can do better than this.

By Beverly, San Jose on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 07:11 pm:

Hello danbury: Frohliche Weihnachten Einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr. I pretty much said the same thing in Finnish. Hello, have a good day, enjoy and celebrate a joyous season, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. How could you misplace your cat? Maybe the earthquake you had scared him. I have a cat, Woozie boy by name, and the earthquakes here scare him. Last time I couldn't find him for 3 days. :) Auf Wiederschen, Pass auf dich auf! :) Bthecute1

By a voice on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 07:17 pm:

Dave, MT. A friend of mine had to make a neccessary trip to Montana to bring back a horse that she sold to some people who was poorly taking care of this horse. Horse was being underfed, had a broken leg, a horrible case of worms. I get the idea by your comment to the lady in Iowa that you approve of cruelity to animals out there in Montana ( or at least you do!) I think if you were to re-read Joan,OH.note once more, I believe you might get the idea that it didn't just happen because of the heck of it.

By Janie C.R. Ia. on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 07:34 pm:

To Dave, MT. Yes if I was abusing any of my pets in anyway, shape,or form, I would probably turn myself in as well as having my neighbors turn me in too...I also would ask my aunt who is a vet to turn me in as well! So a merry christmas to you as well!

By Dave, Laurium on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 07:39 pm:

Bthecute1, the 4th pic is of the Laurium Airport and the rec area there.

By Candy, CA on Thursday, December 23, 2004 - 08:34 am:

And Dave, if you are using Verizon, or sending to Verizon, I hear they're blocking email from many European countries on an arbitrary basis.

And Beverly (you cutie you!), Houska Joulua ja Onnellista Uutta Vuotta to you and your family from ours. Please share that with Mary. We think of you and your family so often, with love.
