G'Morning from Green Bay Brrrr! Baby,its cold outside!!

Nice website. It's ten degrees in Western Massachusetts this morning, hardly any snow on the ground, and rain expected tomorrow. I wish I was in the UP, but my wife the Californian, would have a heart attack. She can barely handle these wishy washy New England winters.

My father, Walter Lukkarila, and I are writing a book on the Mass Consolidated Mining Company (1899-1999). Nick Lukkarila and his father, Jafet Lukkarila, both worked there. Anyone have any pictures, stories, or artifacts they want to share?

Snowmobiling
The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open and groomers are out working on them. Trails are reported to be in good to very good condition overall.

The Chassell to Painesdale trail is closed.

The Portage Lift Bridge connecting the trail between Houghton and Hancock is open to snowmobile traffic and the mat is down. Please stay on the trail and stay off the ice.

Hello Dave of Laurium: Wondering if your bed and breakfast is still open with the coffee brewing? I think you are selling yourself short. Question: Why does Shelly and Jeff get to cook, and Candy and I have to shovel? Are you afraid that I might make Elvira's pasties topped with habaneros? :)

HHHeeelllloooo Elvira, I was wondering what happened to you. What have you done to the pasty lately?? You betcha, coffee's on, B&B is ready.... may put you to work shoveling or using the snowblower though. Hope all is well in Elvira-land.

Elvira...bring em' on! Everyone else, I really don't have a B&B, it was just a little joke that took on a little life of its own a while back. But I could certainly give you some B&B info for the area if you'd like. And, push come to shove, if they are full, arrangements could certainly be made. I would hate to see anyone miss an opportunity to visit this area.

Love Habanero stuffed olives, but have not tried any on pasty...Habanero pumpkin pie is good also.

Thought you might like a little winter snow pic update. The first pic is the now vacant lot where the Laurium Tea Room was before the fire a week ago, as you can see, winter has definitely arrived, enjoy....

Janie, C.R., IA. It may have been better to list this on another page, but I had to say something. If your favorite pet happened to acccidentally die during a cold spell, ran off a cliff, got caught by a coyote, hawk, or perished in some other fashion, would you want your neighbor to push to have you prosecuted, jailed, or fined?? I don't think so! Attitudes like yours are running America into the ground. Accidents happen, and lets just be thankful it wasn't a human. Drive safe, wear your seatbelt, and be kind to one another!

Dave..., glad you posted those shots of Calumet. We have a dusting, but I am sure the snow mobilers will be gearing up, if they haven't already. Very cold. When it is this cold, there should be 2' snow cover, eh?

Didn't seem that accidental to me (the puppy), more like kinda stupid, to keep it low, but then, perhaps they didn't know better - meaning they'd be "punished" enough, perhaps?

A side note about E-Mails: I'm having constant trouble with mine recently, know of at least three that didn't reach me, and several I send to friends that didn't go out either, despite being registered as such. So, whoever should get mail, bear with me!

Dave, MT. A friend of mine had to make a neccessary trip to Montana to bring back a horse that she sold to some people who was poorly taking care of this horse. Horse was being underfed, had a broken leg, a horrible case of worms. I get the idea by your comment to the lady in Iowa that you approve of cruelity to animals out there in Montana ( or at least you do!) I think if you were to re-read Joan,OH.note once more, I believe you might get the idea that it didn't just happen because of the heck of it.

To Dave, MT. Yes if I was abusing any of my pets in anyway, shape,or form, I would probably turn myself in as well as having my neighbors turn me in too...I also would ask my aunt who is a vet to turn me in as well! So a merry christmas to you as well!
