Does anyone know of any restaurants in the Houghton/Hancock area that will be open on Christmas Day?

Over the past two Christmas's when we were in area motels, we couldn't find anything open ... nada.

Check with your motel, or if you're renting somewhere, I'd plan on cooking in, if you can.

Every time I have been up there for a major holiday, the restaurant at the top of the Franklin in has been open.

I am not totally sure about this, but I had the manager of Quincy's tell me one Christmas Eve that the State of Michigan requires any bar or restaurant that has a liquor license to close at 9PM on Christmas Eve and they cannot open until 7AM on December 26. I know that Gino's in Hancock does this; I'd also bet that places like Suomi Bakery and Kaleva Cafe are just closed for the holiday. You may want to give Perkins (up by Shopko) a call to see if they will be open...

I'm sorry, please check the hour I posted and subtract one as I am in the CDT zome. I turned 57 in October (and thank you for any greetings regarding birthdays and such). It was 56 degrees here today and I don't know how to do the little o sign on my keyboard. Thanks folks--you have no o idea how much I miss the UP and the Norther WI area. My folks are from there and being here in TX, no matter how long, you're still a Yankee!

To make the degree sign on your keyboard, hold down the ALT key, while typing 0176 on the calculator portion of your keyboard. It's 33.9° here in Lake Linden, according to Johndee.com!
