Late last night we received word from Lansing that the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund has included Hunter's Point in the final recommendations for the legislature, clearing the way for approval of the purchase sometime in 2005. See the official press release on the What'sUP page.

We just walked out along the point this past autumn. It's a beautiful and special place. This is good news indeed.

I wish I was there instead of Denver.

I've never been out there on Hunter's Point, but I'll bet it's
nice. I wonder if there are any archeological sites there?
Native American and early mining sites?

Who owns Porter's Island? Wasn't that were the first
mineral agency office was located in 1843 or 1844?

I should add that Porter's Island is just off the picture to
the right end of Hunter's Point.

Congratulations to Grant Township, Copper Harbor,
and everyone who worked hard and contributed their

an enormous and wonderful undertaking to ensure that
beautiful rock beach will be there for everyone to enjoy
forever. And I'm so proud of Dick and Sharon Powers
for spending their "retirement" working tirelessly for
Hunter's Point - thank you!
