Our thanks to Keith Meyers, who has shared some great shots on the Pasty Cam in recent years. He has dozens more in his Guest Gallery album. I found this Shoebox Memory while catching up on the Ancestors page, which we link from our What'sUP section. This is a shot of Keith's Mother and her Dad from about 1937. There was more snow cover on the roads that day than there is here in the U.P. this morning, as some warm rain yesterday morning rolled our weather clock back a month.

With all the interest in the Ancestors forum, we need to divide up the discussion in some manner so that the page doesn't take forever to load. Should we have a page for each week? or enable visitors to create ancestor-subtopics to advance the conversation? Your suggestions are welcome.

Hello! I love the picture today!

By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Sunday, December 5, 2004 - 08:31 am:

Ive got pictures of my family in various cars like that--snow and all.

By John from the prairie on Sunday, December 5, 2004 - 08:34 am:

Well, he's wearing coveralls but the hood isnt up and the car isnt
jacked up. with tires that tall he could probably just slide under
the running boards anyway, despite being a large man.

The car off to the right with the wood spoked wheels looks
burried.

Can anyone venture a guess as to where this picture was taken? Check out the steeple on the far left of the picture.

By Candy, CA on Sunday, December 5, 2004 - 09:03 am:

Many of Keith's pics of this time are from Chassell, so that's my guess...

By Keith, Kansas on Sunday, December 5, 2004 - 09:22 am:

Candy, you are correct...this one was taken in Chassell.

With that steeple where it is, I would have thought they were in Lake Linden, just up the street from where the post office is now, and that would be Torch Lake in the background. Good thing I didn't bet on it. She sure loves her dog,how cute!

I remember riding in our old car---model A to our camp at Agate Beach. Had to go from Trimountain and by the time we got there, my mother said the milk had turned to buttermilk. Also remember riding in the back with the trunk open. Glad we've come a long way with cars!!!

Great picture, Keith!

If possible, I think it would be great to enable people to create subtopics, or however it would work to where you didn't have to open a different thread to read what was in each week. Thanks!

And a Happy Birthday to my sister Brenda Hendrickson (Rowe) today!

By DH, Temecula, CA on Sunday, December 5, 2004 - 10:50 am:

If I have my bearings (questionable given the hour in CA), that would be St. Anne's steeple and Pike Bay in the background. The photographer was facing east on Sixth street, about a block west of US 41. The old Standard station (hi Cliffdweller!) would have been right across the highway from the white house. The Standard is now the Citgo quickie market, the two houses on the right are still there, but some of the buildings on the left are gone. If you were standing there today you'd be in danger of being run over by my uncle backing out of his garage!

By Jen, WI on Sunday, December 5, 2004 - 11:13 am:

Happy 21st Birthday to Kelly Saari!!!

By looks cold regardless on Sunday, December 5, 2004 - 12:37 pm:

I dunno but it looks like about fifth? street in lake Linden looking down to Torch Lake with St Joes to the left.

By ghuy on Sunday, December 5, 2004 - 12:40 pm:

If that is Chassell what church would that be?
It has been a while.

By Mary Lou on Sunday, December 5, 2004 - 03:00 pm:

..Just guessing......Front street in Lake Linden....Olive Farwell's house on the corner and the high school between St Joseph's and Olive's (she was Brockway's granddaughter)......looking toward the Bootjack road.....wonder what is Kieth's grandfather's name??

By Mary Lou on Sunday, December 5, 2004 - 03:14 pm:

PS......what about dividing the ancestor page by town or area....

Mary Lou ~ My Grandfather, in the picture, is Charles Nurmi - passed away in '49. My mother, also in the picture, is Beatrice (Nurmi) Meyers.
(I have always loved this pic ... thanks for sharing it Keith -- your sis, Kiirsten)
