Eight years ago, the Pasty Cam featured some fix-up work on the Douglass Houghton memorial in Eagle River, which was capped off by some seasonal decorations. The famed Michigan state geologist lost his life in nearby Lake Superior's waters.

High temperature today in the upper 70s today. Wish it was a bit cooler for baking cookies with the granddaughter. No visual relief looking at the MTU webcam, but the bridge cam still shows a white Houghton/Hancock back on Dec. 5th. Any really good and easy cookie recipes out there? We will be doing more baking next weekend. I prefer to use butter instead of shortening.

xx

A little known fact is that Houghton's body was recovered the following spring and returned to the family plot in Detroit for burial.

Susan, I've got a few good recipes that I'll send you. Butter is better!

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Saturday, December 16, 2006 - 11:53 am:

What actually happened to Douglass Houghton? May he rest in peace.

By Danbury (Danbury) on Saturday, December 16, 2006 - 12:16 pm:

To answer above question, read this.

Uh, Joanie, to answer you other question, yes, it was. Just wished you hadn't posted the first one.

Mr Bill...where is Douglass Houghton interred?

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Saturday, December 16, 2006 - 07:42 pm:

Kniton2, I found this in the link posted by Danbury. Elmwood Cemetery, on Detroit's east side.

By Mr. Bill (Mrbill) on Saturday, December 16, 2006 - 08:14 pm:

In inner City downtown Detroit, not far from the old Cobo Hall; there's quite a Family plot there.
