Hi pasty friends.
last week I posted here telling everyone how I was getting ready for a huge Thanksgiving dinner with 27 family members.just wanted to update and let you know everything was a huge sucess and oh the fun we had. my sister arrived a day early to help me and we had the best time catching up and making pies.(had a couple drinks too.)
our husbands stayed busy and out of the way!!!
the rest of the evening more family members arrived and some of us stayed up talking til 3:ooam.I't was tough getting up the next morning
the best part of all of this was the kids being able to hang out with their cousins for 3 whole days. they watched movies, listened to music and sat outside the house til late at night laughing and having a great time.
The best part for me was hearing my nephew say "aunt Joanne this was my best Thanksgiving ever"

Hi
I just finnished reading Steve Lehto's new book,
Death's Door , The Truth Behind Michigan's Largest Mass Murder. It is the true story written about the Italian Hall disaster.
I can make alot of comments on it, outrage for one. Read it for yourself and decide.
Alicia

There will be a book signing Steve Lehto - author of "Deaths Door", the story of the Italian Hall Tragedy of December 24, 1913 will be signing books at Etc. Etc. Shop in downtown South Range.

"Pops" Lehto of Suomi College was Steve's grandfather.

Have you looked at our new calendar pages that are found on the front page of Pasty.com? Who knew never there is so much going on in the Copper Country.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 - 09:35 am:

Before too much outrage sets in, just remember that it is the author's "interpretation" of what happened at the Italian Hall that fateful night, and not necessarily the full truth. I really don't believe anyone knows exactly what happened that night. All we know for sure is that there was a party, someone yelled fire, panic ensued, and 73 people died. Beyond that, I believe everything else is just speculation and finger-pointing and that only the good Lord knows the whole truth of what happened that night.

Beautiful fluffy clouds. Now what is the Latin name for clouds of that nature? All we ever see is cummulus nimbus, (sp)!

The cloud pattern is called mackeral sky. It is composed of cirrus and cirrocumulus clouds and gets its name from the fishscale pattern. It is fairly rare.

Regarding Italian Hall, has the cemetery where many of those who died were buried been cleaned up? I remember in the late 80s or early 90s, it was overgrown. I am thinking it might be just north of Calumet. Of course, I might be wrong and it is a different cemetery all together. But I do remember how sad I felt to see a cemetery gone to seed like that.

I agree with Capt. Paul.

On a happier note: I just got my pasty cam 2007 calendars. Unbelievably beautiful!

I knew that the calendar would be great because of the photos I have been blessed to see daily, but how could anyone choose among all the incredible shots?

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 - 02:57 pm:

Who has their pictures in the Pasty Cam calendar?

By Donald R. Elzinga (Donagain) on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 - 03:05 pm:

I think the cloud formation is of altocumulus clouds which have more water vapour than ice chrystals in them because they are lower than cirrus cluds.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 - 04:29 pm:

So it's a holy mackeral sky? I thought I smelled something fishy!

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 - 04:49 pm:

Just wondering if any one checked out the interesting site I mentioned a few weeks ago? It's called cloudappreciationsociety.org. Wonderful clouds. Me? I have my head in the clouds as often as I can.
