Pasty Cameraman Jon Hopper posted this interesting shot eight years ago. You can see his shadow on the Econofoods building on M-26 in Houghton, with the bridge and Ripley in the background.

No snow then and no snow now. Instead of gliding on the trails, the high school cross country ski team will spend Thanksgiving training camp using poles, mud-covered shoes, and maybe even shorts.

No, unfortunately, SOMEBODY in this household has to work. That would be me. LOL Believe me, I WOULD be going otherwise, but not 'til later when things have calmed down some.

Joey who!!! What was the final score????????

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, November 24, 2006 - 09:29 am:

Joey Harrington, their old QB!!! I think the score was either 27-10 or 34-10, something like that.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, November 24, 2006 - 10:37 am:

I think it was 34-10. It started out so good, what a shame.

By Charles In Esky (Charlesinesky) on Friday, November 24, 2006 - 12:51 pm:

I think it was around 1960 that Wm Clay Ford bought the Lions.
At the time the team still had a great defense -- probably a
residue from the 1957 championship team plus Alex Karras who
came in 1958 or so. Thru the 1960s the defense gradually got
a little worse due to age, retirements and a few good younger
players like Wayne Walker going to teams that would pay more.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ford's "crack" management team did nothing to
make the offense any better. By the 1970s the Lions were the
mediocre team they have been ever since. When a team is bad
that long, it has nothing to do with players or coaches. It is
entirely management. The Wrigley-owned Chicago Cubs have
been the same kind of team in baseball. And still the fans come,
and they hope. Why?

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Friday, November 24, 2006 - 01:53 pm:

I hope this doesn't offend any Lion fans. I am a Bears fan, but I would like to see the Lions do well. Just not when they play the Bears. I got this in an email and thought it was funny.
The Detroit Lions

Q: What do you call 47 millionaires around a TV watching the Super Bowl?
A: The Detroit Lions.
Q: How do you keep a Detroit Lion out of your yard?
A: Put up goal posts.
Q: Where do you go in Detroit in case of a tornado?
A: To Ford Field — they never get a touchdown there.
Q: What do you call a Detroit Lion with a Super Bowl ring?
A: A thief.
Q: Why doesn’t Grand Rapids have a professional football team?
A: Because then Detroit would want one.
Q: What’s the difference between the Detroit Lions and a dollar bill?
A: You can still get four quarters out of a dollar bill.
Q: How many Detroit Lions does it take to win a Super Bowl?
A: Nobody knows and we may never find out.
Q: What do the Detroit Lions and possums have in common?
A: Both play dead at home and get killed on the road.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, November 24, 2006 - 03:10 pm:

Charles, that is so true. As long as they have Ford, they will not have a good team.

JH, I've been a Lions fan all my life and it didn't offend me at all. The truth hurts, however.

By FJL (Langoman) on Friday, November 24, 2006 - 03:51 pm:

Remember the "Barry Sanders" years. One of tne most exciting running backs ever, and a Gentleman also. What a thrill it was to watch a true master of his profession perform. There will never be another.......

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, November 24, 2006 - 04:15 pm:

Remember them well! Also love watching that young Hart kid for the Wolverines run. He reminds me of Barry a lot. But you're right, there will never be another.

By Charles In Esky (Charlesinesky) on Friday, November 24, 2006 - 04:49 pm:

Oh, dear! Thumbgardener really cuts close to the bone. Doesn't
bother me as I am a Packer fan, but we have a son in Grand
Rapids who really cares. I can hardly wait to run these by him.
He, he!

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Friday, November 24, 2006 - 05:14 pm:

that's hilarious...but the Packers aren't much better

By It's Me (Yooper) on Friday, November 24, 2006 - 05:16 pm:
