Eight years ago, PastyVision stopped at a marker commemorating the Cliff Mine, showing off the brilliant colors. The predominant color today is white, with snow predicted to continue today and tomorrow.

Is it time to start checking the trail report?

By Carl Schroeder (Carlmtu) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 07:34 am:

Hello All...I have a question...Does anyone know of a location in the greater Houghton Area that I could buy pumpkins? I guess that I am looking for more of a local roadside stand instead of a store like Walmart.

Thanks for any help...and just assume that the snow is orange and is thus appropriate for the Fall/Halloween season

By Lorelei (Lorelei) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 07:40 am:

Carl,
If you drive to Dollar Bay and then turn up the Airport Park Rd, there is a huge pumpkin patch with pumpkins, squash and corn stalks.

I believe it is owned by the Somero's.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 08:01 am:

I know a few people a couple months ago were asking where the Cliff Cemetary (I believe the Protestant one) was. The trail that leads to it is straight behind that sign up the hill. Beautiful pic, although I doubt it looks like that this morning......

Good Morning, America gave the weather report from Twin Lakes this morning!

By Chris Beaudoin (Dunerat) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 08:39 am:

Good morning, Keweenaw! Saw you on the Weather Channel last night (downtown Houghton and people going into the Library.) Just a little snow on the cars in Muskegon this morning, although over an inch is on the ground in Grand Rapids and it's falling fast right now. Trees are full of redwing blackbirds making noise like they shoulda headed south a couple of days ago.

Looks like you're in for quite a storm. Great time to put another log on the fire, get something good in the oven, and look out the window. The excitement of the first snow of the year never goes away. Stay safe out on the roads!

By KJ (Kjinfremontmi) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 09:58 am:

Hey Chris,

Although not much accumulation, we sure have the wind here along the lakeshore this morning. Burr.....

This may be of interest to those on Lake Michigan and Huron..

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 10:29 am:

I saw Houghton this morning on the Weather Channel as well, with the snow falling. I thought it was great that on Tuesday Jim Cantore actually pronounced Ontonagon correctly, and how he loves that area of the great lakes. Although If I saw Mr. Cantore in my neighborhood I'd be a little worried; seems like when there is bad weather approaching, he is there!!

By RCW (Rcw) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 10:31 am:

The Weather Channel has been broadcasting live from Twin Lake quite frequently also this morning

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 10:40 am:

Lance from TWC mentioned in his report that the U.P. area recieves 3 inches of snow yearly...hummm, Lance, maybe 300 inches?

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 10:44 am:

See this Weather Channel video: Lance Hill on location in Twin Lakes

Listen carefully... Lance Hill, at the end of the video:

Quote:

"It's going to be a rough one up here - even up here in the Keweenaw peninsula, where they average as much as three inches of snow a year ..."

Wow three inches a year!
There ought ta be a law against these empty talking heads.

All right I was bragging the other day that we have an ordinance agaist snow here in Berkley that no snow can fall in Oct. Which one of you prayed to the snow God to send snow here to me? Okay I will be humble now, and accept the snow, freezing rain and everything else that is sent here by the Snow God. But I am not happy.

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 11:16 am:

thanks for the videw, frnash. How funny!

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 11:24 am:

Snow's pounding down here now in Commerce Township, but it's above freezing and due to warm up tomorrow. Tonite might be scary driving with most of our snow, and falling temperatures, predicted for later.

Let's just say I coined a new word in my previous post: videw: a video view!

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 11:25 am:

Good Morning, America said the Keweenaw gets in excess of 300 inches.

Thanks to whoever is posting the photos on What's UP. I love today's picture.

By Robert - CO (Halork) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 03:01 pm:

I think we ought to give Lance a little credit for a slip of the tongue... even the pros make mistakes.

By Lorelei (Lorelei) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 03:22 pm:

Robert,
Somtimes I wish Mother Nature would make the mistake Lance did and just send 3" of snow. Especially come February.

By Roger Somero (Rsomero) on Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 09:45 pm:

Just got out of the CC in time! Tried to leave at 7:00 am from $Bay, wife drove to CMX from Ahmeek, through whiteout in Kearsarge. Dad had to drive me to airport because her small rental car would not make it out to Torch Lake. Met up there and 8 hours later we were in Racine-whew. Lots of fun tho.
