Detroit Tiger fans will remember one of Ernie Harwell's favorite descriptions of a batter striking out without swinging: "He just stood there like the house beside the road." The Pasty Cam from eight years ago caught this house beside the road, the Tambellini cottage on Lake Medora. Meanwhile the Detroit Tigers of today continue their quest for the American League championship.

GO TIGERS!!!!

It was great when ESPN let Ernie do some play-by-play on Saturday!

Deb S.: Didn't see you at Ambassador Sunday, did I? We were there at 4:30 when they opened. Got UP Friday about 5:00. The colors were better than expected! On our peninsula and in the Keweenaw they were wondrous, even tho past peak. Ate at the Harbor Haus. The Brockways were packed with cars. Saw a young girl near the top on ski-skates (?) using ski poles. Sisu! The Lac LaBelle and Gay areas were also beautiful. Went to the Jampot, only one more week there to go. Sunday went towards Covington on a moose hunt (no luck) and on towards the Porkies. It looked like winter there, as the trees were bare. We did go to Bond Falls though. I'd been there before, but it was nothing like this! With the new boardwalks, you can park at the bottom and you walk around a curve, and THERE THEY ARE! A much nicer way to walk up on them, it's more dramatic! If you haven't been there in awhile, it's time to make a return visit. Friday night we hit a deer running full speed out of the woods just north of Baraga. Wrecked the front of our car and gave us one headlight to drive home with all weekend (and no dashlights, so we couldn't see the speedometer). Watched for you on your bike, Richard, and am assuming it wasn't you I saw on a tandem. All in all it was a glorious weekend and the colors were beautiful, both on the trees and underfoot.

Tim, no doubt. That was exciting! I love the Tigers and any time they beat the Yankees it's even better. Too bad nobody's giving the Tigers any credit, just blaming it on a Yankee collapse. Well, maybe there was a reason for that, like good pitching!!!
Anyway, Marsha, didn't make it to the Ambassador. We decided on Gino's in Hancock instead cuz they had a fish plate dinner where you could get trout and spaghetti. I LOVE their spaghetti. We made it to the hut on Saturday and had pasties though. That was nice. We also were on Brockway and it was packed. It was so windy at the top of the hill that I almost blew over. And that's no kidding. The view was breathtaking. Saw a lot of boats out in the water. Took lots of beautiful fall shots. We almost stopped at the Harbor Haus but knew we were stopping at the Hut for pasties so didn't do that. We never stop at the jampot cuz we make our own but I hear they have some delicious cookies so may have to next time. Porkies are also on our list for next time. All in all it was a great trip, albeit too short.

Marsha,
Thanks for the info on Bond Falls. We stopped there 5 years ago. They are my favorite. We didn't get to them when we were up last month. I don't know when we will be able to go to the UP again, but when we do we will stop there for sure to see that.

We saw a freighter out our window by the Portage lighthouse on the east end Sunday. Can anyone tell me what it was doing? It didn't look like the one I saw on here that delivered salt. Someone told me it was seeking shelter. It also did not look like the one in Bete Gris. It was the first freighter I've ever seen in our bay while I was UP!

Re GO TIGERS!!!!:

Could this be the "Year of the Tiger"?
or is it the Year "of the Dog"? Hmmm...

Hmmm, I wonder what's up - I see the Wal-Mart "suits" were in the ol' Copper Country (at CMX) this morning...
